At that time, in Southern California, if you had a Confederate Flag or were enamored with that ethos, you were considered a complete turkey. I was in the graduating class and know that Allen's girlfriend was one of the cheerleaders and the prom queen - so he was far from an outsider. He was also QB of the varsity football team. Everybody knew he was a racist, but it was an all-white school in a heavily repuke wealthy suburb, so it was never considered a big deal. Even when he spraypainted racist graffiti on the school walls and got into trouble with the administration, the kids for the most part just considered it a prank. Everybody knew right away Allen was involved, though, because it was racist.
