Hatch: Terrorists "Waiting For Democrats To Take Control" To Strike Again
Hatch says Demo win could help terrorists
By Matt Canham
The Salt Lake Tribune

Salt Lake City - Senator Hatch and Bennett address the Utah Senate. (Ryan Galbraith/The Salt Lake Tribune)

Sen. Orrin Hatch, who continuously decries the bitter partisanship in Washington, implied this week that Democratic success in November's election could result in terrorist attacks on America.

Hatch was quoted in Tuesday's Tooele Transcript Bulletin as saying Middle East terrorists are "waiting for the Democrats here to take control, let things cool off and then strike again."

Democrats are criticizing Hatch for what they see as "ridiculous" partisan hyperbole.

"There they go again trying to use smear and fear to win in November," said Stacie Paxton, spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee.

124. He absolutely hates America
Orrin Hatch is a scumbag, and he wakes me angry at the people of Utah for electing him. Excuse me, Orrin, when did the last and ONLY al Queda attack on American soil occur? That's right, on Georgie's watch. When did London get attacked? Madrid? What makes you think George has done ANYTHING to cripple terrorism, and that the Democrats could and would do a worse job?

Not only do I think Democrats can do better at the war on terror than Republicans, but I think it is impossible for them to do worse!

ready for the vote theft to takeover in 2000, drawing maps of earth resources and dividing it up, writing to Pres Clinton and asking him to invade Iraq, setting up Hussein as the bad guy, protecting their House of Saud friends, allowing infiltration by Israel in government positions in Washington.

They are not going to go away. The only hope is getting more people to realize what PNAC and all their associated friends will be planning next - because their barons must have control of all people and the ground beneath them and their friends must be more than wealthy. And we are in the way and beneath contempt - to them.

"There they go again..." and spout some wimpy reply. We need to turn it on them and ask them HOW they know that this is the case. What evidence do they have that this is going to happen. What plans have you seen that this is going to happen? Have you perhaps MADE plans for this to happen?

If we don't nail them to the wall on this they WILL pull off some sort of event...they are power mad and they will do ANYTHING to maintain power.

84. Scary...
You're absolutely correct. There are still large numbers of folks that believe Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, despite the fact that they've heard otherwise about a million times now. There are still folks out there who believe Saddam was working hand in glove with bin Laden also. Why would they not think that the evidence of the pResident's "wisdom and leadership" is that the U.S. has not had another major terrorist attack?

Is that scary or what?

So, hey! Either we figure what it takes to turn these folks around or we give up on trying for their votes.

The pResident has been remarkably effective in turning every point against his administration into a 9/11 discussion.
The economy is in trouble? Well, that's because of our losses from 9/11.
The public schools are struggling. Well, that's because of our losses from 9/11.
The Katrina victims are still homeless. Well, that's because of our losses from 9/11.

Advertisers claim that individuals need to hear a message at least nine times before they actually recall it.

There have been so many, many scandals from this administration! Yet they redirect everything back to 9/11. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Democrats seem to be responding to scandals and crises individually... to be talking about the Plame case, then talking about black box voting, then talking about Lamont/Lieberman, then talking about something else...

Guys, we have to focus on one message that applies to all the administration's screw-ups, and we have to repeat, repeat, repeat, and repeat one more time.

/rant

142. Uh, don't be too sure...
Some of his constituents think that Native Americans were members of one of the lost tribes of Israel. They also belive in some sort of magic underpants (my phrasing), and the wife gets to wait around in some sort of purgatory like place, waiting for her husband to die before she can get to heaven, while when the husband dies, he goes straight up there. Polygamy used to be a good thing, and proselytizing on bikes with helmets is the name of their game.

No need to remind them that 9/11 happened on an all-republican watch.

Quite to the contrary of what they say, they're actually scared that Democrats will make America SAFER. republicans cannot abide by a safer America - that leaves them with nothing to campaign on.

It's actually JUST LIKE education - republicans can't abide by a well-educated electorate.

Please explain to me, Orrin, the second World Trade Center attack seven and a half months after your president was inaugurated?

I think we can much more easily say that after Bill Clinton jailed the perpetrators of the first WTC attack and executed Timothy McVeigh, the terrorists waited for your boy.

Somehow the GOP always glosses over the fact that 9/11 happened on their watch, and Orrin's doing his uncivil best to put blame where it doesn't belong and fear in everyone's hearts.

29. ATTENTION! EVERYONE who leans M/LIHOP!
THIS IS A (not-so) CODED MESSAGE FROM THE TRUE PERPETRATORS: IF DEM'S RETAKE CONTROL, WE WILL LAUNCH ANOTHER ATTACK.

This has been bothering me for some time. ASSUME, for the sake of argument, that some U.S entity L/MIHOP on 9/11. Most people stop thinking right there, because it is such a gigantic proposition that only ~30% of the population has even been able to wrap their minds around it.

HOWEVER, what are the natural implications of *IHOP? Clearly, the perps cannot launch another attack while the repukes are in power, because that would be prima facie evidence that they are not protecting America as promised. That's why no attack in 2004 would've helped bush* in the campaign.

However a Democratic takeover of Congress is a perfect smokescreen for another attack, because then the DEMS get to be blamed for it. It is a perfect 1-2 punch, and completely Rovian in its foresight. It has always been the backup plan for when the true perps lose power.

My guess is it would happen about a year after the midterms, in the run-up of the '08 pres. campaign. Rudy will get to ride in as the repuke saviour in a redux of his 9/11 faux heroism.

IF THEY TRULY MIHOP, THEN JESUS, DO YOU THINK THEY'RE NOT CAPABLE OF DOING IT AGAIN IF THEIR WAR AGENDA IS IN DANGER??

Thank you that is all. I'm sure the official 9/11 story is correct, and the scary muslim terrists are just biding their time waiting for Dems to retake control so they can launch another attack, bringing Repukes back into power and perpetuating the endless war with the west that osama has always wanted. never mind.

95. They didn't need to.
It's a self-reinforcing right-wing meme. The wingnuts who say "Dems are weak" all the time will naturally say "We'll be attacked again if Dems are elected!" (hell, darth said this during the campaign about Kerry!)

So, the perps will take advantage of this and pull another MIHOP after the Dems win, thus providing an ex-post-facto justification of the wingnut "Dems enable terrorists" meme.

Allll according to plan. Just watch.

Anyone with the audacity to commit 9/11 surely has the audacity to do it again when politically expedient.

just who are those terrorists? Who funds them, who trains them, who provokes them?
If far-RW elements can incite terrorism and support military dictatorships in poor nations that don't want to be exploited by the US, what's stopping them from doing so inside the US?

32. Whorin' Orrin has it backwards again.
Orrin: The terrorists waited until George Bush took office to pull off "THE BIG ONE." They knew that your party is utterly incompetent and feckless, and that in Bush's first months you'd be so thoroughly consumed by finding new and better ways to get rid of taxes and funnel the U.S. Treasury into your private bank accounts that you'd leave the door wide open for them. Judging from your subsequent exploitation of terrorism for political gain, I'll assume you're glad you did!

He is for the dumping of Nuclear Waste in my state. I have written him several times about national security issues. His replies are always the same "we need to give the President the tools to do his job" crap. His ties to the Mormon Church are really extensive too. I'm going to vote for his opponent Pete Ashdown. He is a much better candidate than Hatch.

I think he will do a better job on "security" by ensuring that we don't get nuclear waste dumped in our backyard.

37. Hatch : read this please............

"I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace. This administration is just learning that lesson right now. The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions. A month later, these questions are still unanswered. There are no clarified rules of engagement. There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our over-extended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today"

Check out the letter I sent to Hatch.
Dear Senator Hatch,
Your comment implying that terrorist are "waiting for the Democrats here to take control, let things cool off and then strike again," is deplorable. I would like to know where this information is coming from. Do you have credible sources that you can back that statement up with? Can I have a copy of that information?
If you don't have the information to back that statement, I request that you stop making statements that aren't based in fact. As a U.S. you have took an oath to Represent me. That statement doesn't represent my opinion and the opinion of many of your constituents.

Don't forget when you go to the polls in November that only the Republicans can keep you safe. Because 9/11 happened when a Democrat was in office. And Iraq has WMD.

dickhead.

The republicans and this administration are absolutely at fault. There have always been terrorists, and will always be terrorists, yet it was only on the republican watch that the World Trade Center and Pentagon were successfully attacked.

Orrin Hatch, let's be clear about this. The incompetence of the republican administration is DIRECTLY to blame for letting terrorists succeed, and the incompetence continues.

On your watch, Senator Hatch, in the intervening years since box cutters were used to fly airplanes into buildings, you have allowed every kind of binary liquid on our flights, up until last week, when you, and the Department of Hopeless Security suddenly discovered grade school chemistry.

On your watch, we lost the entire critical major port city of New Orleans and most of its inhabitants. On your watch we've lost our own self-respect with color coded "terror" alerts, petting zoos as designated terror targets, and now idiotic fear of cheerleaders carrying bottled water on domestic flights between Enid, Oklahoma and Tulsa.

The sooner we get rid of this republican administration, the sooner the world will be safer.

That's the correct response to this flaming pile of donkey dung.

I thought (silly me) that the job of journalists was to ask:

Who? What? Where? When? Why? How? and not just give us spew and counter-spew before moving on to the latest celebrity knews.

The latest garbage being featured in the MSM is wall-to-wall coverage of the Jon Benet Ramsey case. CNN did take a short break to tell us that more men than ever are into selling Avon! No matter what, there is some sensational slop or irrelevant nonsense that MSM can focus upon so that they need never cover real news or spend 5 seconds asking clowns like Hatch to back up their mindless malarkey.

Hatch needs to put up or shut the &^%$ UP! If the media won't ask him that question, then Democratic leaders need to do so, loud and clear.

his comments get reported by our news media as though they were a legitmate argument.

"Orrin Hatch warns Americans that terrorists will strike again if Democrats win back Congress".

They never expose things like this for what they really are: pathetic and bitter attacks, nothing more.

Even worse still, they have the nerve to say its Democrats who spew hateful rhetoric, and that Republicans try to be bipartisan.

This, after news outlets repeated the slur about Lamont, calling him the "Al Qeada candadiate".

Their version of "journalism" is nothing more than middle-school playground gossip.

90. Ridiculous, but
One shouldn't look away from the fact that once the Dems are in control, the blame game will reach new heights.

Prediction:
All things YOU wanted the media to write/say about Bush/GOP's lack of protective measures, response and direction in the hunt for Al-Queda, will then BE written/said.
All of it and more. It will be like x years of Bush/GOP rule never existed.
The new president/Dem senate and house will be blamed for the war in Iraq, like Bush never had invaded that country. If the US troops withdraw, that will be very wrong. If they stay, that will be very wrong.
If there's peace, that will be very wrong. If the war continues, that will be very wrong too. If the oil price is high, it will be used against them. If it drops, it will be used against them. If it stays were it is, they will be blamed.

Let's face it; nothing the Dems do will ever be right, in the eyes of those who see achievements only through partisan spectacles.

Did he receive a memo or e-mail? Or is it one of the messages they secretly picked up and "uncoded" between the terror cells: "alright listen up everyone, let's stay on the down low and not attack America again until the Democrats become the majority in congress."

And how does he justify his statement when the terrorists apparently DID just try to attack us while Republicans are the majority.

Personally, I hold out very little hope that Americans won't be suckered into believing it again. I've become somewhat numb to being shocked, disappointed, angry, and depressed about the people who fall for the GOP's bullshit.

I just hope the Dems do a better job this time around of countering these attacks.

103. hatch called chemical markers in explosives "phony"
Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, emerged from the meeting and said, "These are very controversial provisions that the White House wants. Some they're not going to get."

Hatch called Clinton's proposed study of taggants -- that could help track terrorists -- "a phony issue."

"If they want to, they can study the thing" already, Hatch asserted. He also said he had some problems with the president's proposals to expand wiretapping.

138. Thanks for Posting this information
This gave me the extra info I needed to base blog on.

So, it seems pretty apparent that the Repubs are the ones who are weak on National Security.

Who Knew?

107. calling John Dean
I'd certainly like to think that with all the sewage being
spewed at the moment by the GOP, Dean and the boys are
devising something other than tired old messages - ITS TIME TO
MAKE OUR STAND - HOPE NEEDS TO REPLACE FEAR - maybe even
someone should go so far as to explain that the US spends more
on military defense than all other countries on Earth combined
- and we really don't have to be so 'afraid' that electing
someone other than a Republican will cause the phone number of
the Pentagon to be lost in limbo forever.

Pat "suck up to Bush but never investigate even when you promised to" Roberts, Orrin Hatch is the scariest powerful dude in the Senate.

Can't think of any good ideas of his own.
So he uses the "terrorists want democrats to win" talking point.

Go to hell hatch.

113. Hatch, that's because your boy chimpy took the soldiers from
Afghanistan (where 9/11 orginated) and sent them to Iraq (where 9/11 did not). The attackers will not come from Iraq, Orrinator.

Can be found here.

It's just part of the coordinated effort to scare Democrats into voting against their own best interests.

That the liquid-bomb airline bombers were going to act in a matter of days or weeks?

Doesn't sound like they are waiting for Democratic control does it? Unless - the whole thing last week was just a show.

128. What war on terror???
The war on terror starts at home. And since our home boys attacked it's citizens the war should be against Bush and his regime. I just don't believe there are boogie men out to get us. It's our own government trying to scare us. And don't be surprised if the Nov elections get called off because we are at war. They are doing everything they can to make us believe there really is a war on terror when it's really a war on us by us. So be prepared to hear it's a matter of National Security and we have to cancel the elections till futher notice. Bush and Cheney are the terrortist.

145. When are the Democrats going to take the gloves off?
"Democrats are criticizing Hatch for what they see as "ridiculous" partisan hyperbole"
When are the Democrats going to fight back? When are they going to take the offensive? Did some democrat spokesperson really say "ridiculous partisan hyprbole? You don't win against the enemy by sending brave American troops into a fight without the protective gear they need! How many men died because "they" didn't give them the equipment they need to fight. They didn't send in enough troops. They haven't YET protected our ports and borders and it's almost 5 years since 9/11. Why are we soft balling these idiots? The people out there want someone who is REALLY going to protect them not just SAY they are as the republicans do. WAKE UP!
