John Karr: "I loved JonBenet. She died accidentally"
Suspect Calls Ramsey Slaying an 'Accident'
Man, 41, Arrested in Thailand
By Fred Barbash, T.R. Reid and Spencer S. Hsu
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, August 17, 2006; 9:22 AM

An American man arrested in Bangkok in connection with the 1996 death of JonBenet Ramsey told reporters this morning that he was with the 6-year old when she died but that her death was "an accident."

"I loved JonBenet. She died accidentally," John Mark Karr, 41, told a scrum of reporters as he was led away by Thai law enforcement authorities in Bangkok. Asked if he was innocent, he replied "no." He offered only "no comment" when asked for further details.

Thai police chief Lt. Gen. Suwat Tumrongsiskul said Karr told investigators he committed "second-degree murder. . . . He said it was unintentional. He said he was in love with the child. She was a pageant queen."...

28. Wife says he was with her in Alabama...
since they are divorced after his child porn conviciton in 2001, it raises all kinds of weird options, of which two are: 1. He's making it up; 2) she was in on it.
Rocky mountain news claims he had done extensive research and writing on the subject. Then, and I know this is a stretch, but the cops have said that the 'withheld information' on this case was very, very slight. Could it be that kerr, in persistant obsession of the subject, stumbled on enough to be able to make a reasonable confession?

No doubt the guy is a sicko.

35. There's all kinds of info on the case out there
On blogs, message boards... all kinds of stuff leaked by all parties in the case. Heck, a DUer yesterday said a friend was "deep inside" the investigation, and knew all kinds of stuff about the autopsy reports. Alot of people talk.

The ex-wife's alibi is very, very interesting. It was Christmas Eve, for Cripe's sake -- if there's evidence saying he is innocent of this specific crime, it'll come to light very quickly... which also begs the question: did the cops even TALK to the ex wife?

I really, really want someone to be convicted of this crime (and for all the crimes against ALL children out there), but I don't want the wrong person to be convicted, regardless of his skeeviness.

10. How about that thing
Called DUE PROCESS!!!! You know the concept that someone is innocent until proven guilty, the whole thing about looking at the evidence and making sure that you have the right person?

Or does the rule of law only apply to certain individuals?

23. Innocent until proven guilty is a LEGAL TERM for use in the courts.
Ask any lawyer! When you hear an admission of guilt by someone, the "innocent until proven guilty" applies to provable evidence in a court of law through due process.

Seems like way too many people jump on that phrase and apply it to general opinion as well.

24. I think it's really neat
That the craven cowards who staff and support this country's criminal justice system are too spineless to actually inflict the punishment they want to inflict on people, and instead leave it up to OTHER PRISONERS to carry it out.

If you want criminals raped, at least have the decency to write it into the law books and let the rest of the world judge you for it (cf. Saddam Hussein.)

of nuts who confess to crimes they weren't with 100 miles of. This guy sounds like and obsessed "fan" of the case who wants attention, or maybe wants free room and board (in jail) for the rest of his sorry life.

Sick person? Definitely. Murderer of JonBenet? I guess we will see what the DNA testing shows.

Why would she be lying? especially when she divorced him as soon as she found out about the child porn charges, and won full custody of her kids to protect them. I would think what she claims would be easy enough to prove...

All the articles in the Denver Post about this guy are tres interesting.

Edited on Thu Aug-17-06 09:49 AM by atreides1
They did find DNA, but were unable to match it to anyone in their data base. Now that they have a suspect they can test it against Karr's DNA, but if it doesn't match, they're back to square one.

And what evidence do the authorities have that he was even in Boulder at the time, considering that his ex-wife has stated that they were living in Alabama at the time of the murder.

Also, the only connection that they can make is that Karr lived near the Ramsey's when they lived in Georgia, but then again I'm sure that the same can be said about everyone in Conyers at the time.

26. I DON'T GIVE A FUCK!!!
I don't know how to quite put into words how exceedingly little all of this means to me. Certainly, it's a huge private tragedy for the Ramsey family, but the absolute media frenzy about this and every previous development, both real and purely media invented, is just nauseating, and I find it not at all any more important than the Michael Jackson trial or any other sensationalized tabloid/24-hour-cable-news story. I've never understood the obsessive, almost to the point of prurient, interest such a large segment of the population seems to have in such stories, but it's obviously there or the tabloids and cable shows wouldn't exist to feed it if only for the ratings.

The Child porn charges, the fascination with JonBenet and Polly Klass, lying about being held for her murder.

AND having people in the media and on discussion boards saying she was involved in the murder too, or is lying about being in Alabama, etc. *sigh* This case has screwed up so many lives over the last decade.
