2. These two, at least:

(CBS/AP) One of two Russian airliners that crashed nearly simultaneously was brought down by a terrorist act, officials said Friday, after finding traces of explosives in the plane's wreckage. An Islamic militant group claimed responsibility for the attack in a Web statement.

The planes, with 90 people aboard, went down within 20 minutes of each other Tuesday night. In Washington, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said there was "mounting evidence" that both crashes "were acts of terrorism."

Traces of the explosive hexogen were found in the remains of one of the planes, a Tu-154, security service spokesman Nikolai Zakharov said. No results from the investigation of the other crashed plane, a Tu-134, have been announced.

"According to preliminary information, at least one of the air crashes ... has been the result of a terrorist act," a spokesman for the Federal Security Service, Sergei Ignatchenko, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported.

8. None officially....
But since I worked for American Airlines at the time, I think the one in New York in November of 2001 was highly suspicious. I think it was Flight 538.

9. People forget that one, although it WAS a DC-10 or a variation, I believe.
Sadly, not much unusual in a DC-10 going down. Flight 538, btw, was intranationally Indonesian.

11. Not suspicious in the least. All evidence pointed towards design/mait/eng
No, it was actually a sad story of a design flaw, coupled with a only modest maintenance, and a poor decision to take-off too close into the turbulence wake of an overloaded, thus, a massive 747 (JAL.) They turned right into a what is a horizontal tornado and the plane/bolts failed and down it went. The flight crew tried every thing, and the transcript from the Cockpit Voice Recorder proves that they really fought it right until the end. Check out the report on the NTSB's website, download the .pdf. The conspiracy is paper thin at best and the reality is that the NTSB and Airbus (the company that fucked up the design of the aircraft) are aware of the problems and flight patterns and take-off orders have been changed. Unless the terrorists have come into possession of precision explosive bolts, installed them without notice, without trace wires, and that disable the rudder and hydraulics, and exact times that fit Occam's Razor, well....

No, what happened that day was a pure design and work failure. We thankfully now know how to avoid such catastrophes in the future.

17. I know someone who was on Rockaway Beach
and saw smoke coming from the plane before it dove straight down into the ground.
She and a lot of other eyewitnesses were not included in the final report.

10. There was that shoe bomber fellow.
I believe they found plastic explosives on him, which means it was pretty much a lucky break that he didn't set it off. That was an American Airlines flight, I believe.
