Gas now down $0.57 in two weeks and I think I know why (& why I'm pissed)
A couple weekends ago there was a Hot Rod show here in town. I was on vacation the week prior but got an email that gas was going up $0.30 (which took it to $3.19 all over town).

A week later it had dropped to $2.79 in parts of town (while it was had only dropped to $2.94 near where I live).

Today, I found a place selling gas at $2.62/gal in a part of town I don't usually drive through (the area mentioned just above).

I've a feeling that the shooting up of the price to $3.19 was to gouge the hot rodders. But, also, oil had hit $78/bbl again.

Anyway, it's fine and dandy for gas to be back to $2.62 (not surprising that any collusion might be occurring in order to boost GOP approval ratings prior to the Nov. elections and to help "lower" inflation to get the stock market going again....but all that is a whole other issue).

What pisses me off is that when it went up, all stations around town shot up to $3.19 but now there's nearly a $0.30 disparity around town (with the highest being around where I live...a nicer part of town). For example, ALL Speedway stations went to $3.19 two weeks ago. Right now, there are Speedways in the southern part of the city that are about $2.65 while the Speedway near me is $2.88.

 :banghead:

3. Does horse feed cost more during the kentucky derby?
Is deliberate scarcity a crime or a commercial device?

Is there a public prosecutor that can call it negligence?

Should somebody be fined?

Sounds like price collusion amongst oligopolists, is there no public prosecutor for antitrust matters?

4. Every 6-9 mos. someone lights a fire to check out price gouging
but it goes nowhere every time.

11. the public has been denuded
A proper case would need to prosecute transfer pricing and price gouging
across state lines and national borders, something that would involve a
penetrating audit of the oil companies.... the only citizens of this country
besides the arms manufacturers... we human virus's exist merely to polish their profits.

14. What gets me the most is the "zone pricing" as they call it.
The people in the southern parts of the city always benefit from lower prices before other parts. If you follow the median home price (except the near-downtown areas), the price of gas follows the increase up on a counter-clockwise rotation thru the county.

But nothing is ever done about it.

7. More likely to encourage vacation driving during
August and over Labor Day weekend. It's being noticed that high gas prices are affecting other areas of the economy so the powers that be had to lower them if only for awhile.

8. Locally-- you're so being gouged.
For the last three weeks in sflorida it's been hovering b/w 2.99 and 3.05 (in Palm Beach County it's more, but they have extra gas taxes up there)

9. I would love to be paying the high end of what you are paying!
It would still work out cheaper for me!

A few weeks back I worked out exactly how much we pay here in Australia and it ends up working out to be $5.01USD a gallon!

10. Down $.20 in SE VA...
Down $.20 in SE VA, and I wouldn't doubt that they're going down because little George Felix Allen is in for some competition in November.

12. Down about .20 in the Minneapolis southern 'burbs
I noticed that today and immediately suspected the election and the problems the Bushbot Republican senate candidate seems to be having here.

15. Must be nice... hasn't come down here at all.
It's creeping up a cent or two at a time and not coming down.

I'm so glad that the car gets 42 MPG and the bike gets about 65 MPG and the bicycle gets as much as I manage to put on it....

18. I saw $2.83 today here in Iowa...lowest in a few weeks around here. I
think the strategy is to let it fall so gradually that no one notices; then around election time, people will think "prices aren't so bad" and are less likely to take it out on Rep. incumbents...
