34% - Zogby: Bush Job Approval
Released: August 16, 2006
Zogby: Bush Job Approval—34%

Rating down despite foiled terror plot and Lebanon cease fire; Democrats hold generic Congressional lead

President Bush’s job approval rating dipped two points in the last three weeks, despite the foiling of an airline terror plot and the adoption of a cease–fire deal between Israel and Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, a new Zogby International telephone poll shows.

The survey was conducted Aug. 11–15, 2006, included 1,018 respondents, and carries a margin of error of +/– 3.1 percentage points.

The numbers continue to reflect erosion in the President’s political base – just 62% of Republicans give him positive marks for his job performance, while 38% give him negative marks. Even among weekly WalMart shoppers – a demographic group identified by Pollster John Zogby as a critical support group for Bush – just 45% now give him positive job marks, though his numbers among those shoppers have improved 10 points since early June.

8. About 30% of the country
are your classic RWA (that's Right Wing Authoritarian) who'll follow Bush as he leads the country over a clip. If Bush eats a baby live on CNN, the RWAs will start rationalizing, claiming that Bush had to eat that baby for national security reasons, and praising Bush for making the difficult decision to eat the baby for the good of the nation.

3. Well
This seems to be drooping or holding steady depending upon the poll. So I would think that isn't too good news going into the Novemeber elections. The concern of course is the GOP tampering with the vote and stealing a victory.

4. That Wal-Mart shoppers bit has me worried
People shop there for a lot of different reasons. I would guess, too, that they don't vote all that much. I wouldn't read too much into that. To shift 10 points in a month indicates a faulty base. Without a major event, nothing moves 10 points in a month.

16. So now it's WalMart Shoppers Approve Bush not Soccer Moms?
Is that what they will tell us when our voting machines lie and millions of voters are disenfranchised in 06 and 08?

15. There's an article around here somewhere that
shows an 11% bump in his "Terrorism" rating, not job performance. I've never done a search or I'd hunt it down for you. But that same poll showed his overall job approval at the same dismal levels.

28. It was in terrorism, and it will be just that: a "bump"
I highly doubt it will last more than a few weeks. And the reprecussions of people realizing our government is simply being REACTIVE to terrorist plots as opposed to being PROACTIVE will cause that number to fall well more than 11% over the next months.

18. Now we know who needs educating. Wal-Mart Shoppers! Pass brochures out!
I'm serious. Imagine if we could blitz shoppers in Wal-mart parking lots across America, and wake a significant enough percentage up to flip the election.

I imagine most are just poor and uneducated - not stupid. Show them some respect and tell them the truth, and you might just be surprised at what happens next.

considering the man is a major league asshole and dumber than a stick. Does this mean that 34% of Americans are also either assholes, dumber than a stick or both?

Now I know what the reason for the WalMart question is. I assume the NASCAR question is similar.

31. I'm surprised
I thought that number would have been about five points lower.

By the way, many Wal-Mart shoppers are too poor to shop elsewhere, or there's such little competition in the area that it's more or less the only choice. Attack the company if you want, but some of those people shopping there are just like you and I.

33. I wonder how many people refuse to participate in the poll?
I used to work at a place that did a lot of checking up on its employees.
At the time, whenever someone asked me to partipicate in a poll, I'd
refuse because I didn't know if it was really a pollster or somebody
working for my employers.

I wonder how many people like me just opt out of polls entirely?
Controversy is unprofessional.
