NW Airlines Suggests Employees "Fish In Trash" To Help Workers Save Money
Northwest Airlines advises employees to save money by picking stuff out of the trash

NEW YORK, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Bankrupt Northwest Airlines Corp. (NWACQ.PK: Quote, Profile, Research) advised workers to fish in the trash for things they like or take their dates for a walk in the woods in a move to help workers facing the ax to save money.

The No. 5 U.S. carrier, which has slashed most employees' pay and is looking to cut jobs as it prepares to exit bankruptcy, put the tips in a booklet handed out to about 50 workers and posted for a time on its employee Web site.

......................

Northwest spokesman Roman Blahoski said some employees who received the handbook had taken issue with a couple of the items. "We agree that some of these suggestions and tips ... were a bit insensitive," Blahoski told Reuters.

The four-page booklet, "Preparing for a Financial Setback" contained suggestions such as shopping in thrift stores, taking "a date for a walk along the beach or in the woods" and not being "shy about pulling something you like out of the trash."

Let them eat trash cake! lol A bit insensitive! Sorry about your life savings but you can always become a dumpster diver in your spare time or while on that walk through the garbage dump with your date.

7. WTF??
This is unbefuckinglievable!! Why don't they just put their employees in chains and make them work for free??

This is their advice? Dig through the trash?

Who is their financial advisor...Fred Sanford?

I have heard everything now. If this does not prove just how far down the shitter our country has gone, I don't know what else would.

19. Because they can just ask their passengers to work for free
I flew Northwest last December - I waited for 2 hours at the baggage terminal for my bags to show up; after 13 hours of travel! After 1.5 hours, some of the passengers were saying that Northwest had put out the word that if we wanted our bags, we should go around and unload the plane ourselves. Nice, huh? I'll never fly Northwest again, of course.

11. Won't be to long before
the rich will be in danger. There are way more of us that will end up poor and we are not going to like it. There will be a revolution and we might end up with our own Hezbollah type army. How stupid are these greedy pigs anyway?

21. It has happened before.

Each period of wretched excess (e.g., the Gilded Age, the Roaring Twenties) brings on a financial catastrophe. Then progressives get a foothold and pass laws that make things a little more fair for a little while. Then a generation or two grow up without the wolf at the door, and they think the booming economy and their financial security is their own doing, so they become conservatives or libertarians. Then it all tanks again, and people realize that maybe government does have a reason to reign in the most awful abuses of the rich and powerful.

But if the "haves" and "have mores" could practice just a tiny bit of foresight, compassion, and decency, we wouldn't have to take such painful roller coaster rides all the time.

12. 101 ways to save sure is disappearing

This company provides a similar list:

www.balancepro.net/education/publications/101waystosave.html

Wow...I bookmarked this site earlier and now that I go back to the link
this is what I get:

Sorry! The Page Requested Was Not Found.

It's possible that the address was entered incorrectly, or that the page no
longer exists. Please click here to return to the BALANCE home page.

This leads me to believe they're the company that provided NW with the booklet.

Google does have a cache copy but when I attempted to print the link
it wouldn't work.

18. I found it...
I did a Google search on the term: 101waystosave.html
and found the cached copy.

Here's a couple items:

42. Grocery shop on double coupon days.

43. Trade down your car for a less expensive, lower maintenance one.

That should solve those finanicial worries! :sarcasm:

Hmmm...maybe... this PR person knows he/she is about to get laid off, so this is the final act of revenge? Probably not, but, it's a thought.

17. And if the town they're in has ordinances against Dumpster Diving
or trash picking?

then what?

Is NW going to pay their legal fees?

How rude.

If a company can't afford to pay its workers enough to live on, it shouldn't be in business. Would you start a dairy farm without enough money to feed the cows? Can you start a restaurant without enough bucks to pay for ingredients?

Why do people have businesses and expect the people who work for them to work like slaves and have to pick through trash to have what they need? Are the CEO's picking through trash?

Corporate America has seriously lost its fucking mind.

28. People can find good stuff in trash!
So what's the problem? How humiliating, and as if they are doing their employees a favor with the "tip." :puke:

The Northwest Airlines CEOs don't have to dig in the trash, they ARE the trash.
