Landrieu With Lieberman All The Way
Landrieu With Lieberman All The Way

This may not be news to some in Louisiana, but to those of us outside the state, waiting for definitive, post-primary updates, I guess it doesn’t come as much of a shock that centrist Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) is firmly behind Joe Lieberman in Connecticut's Senate contest, despite Joe losing the August 8 primary to Democrat Ned Lamont.
..............

"Win or lose in Tuesday's primary, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., will have Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., on his side," wrote Bruce Alpert and Bill Walsh, of the Times-Picayune. "According to aides, Landrieu assured Lieberman that she'll support him as a Democrat or independent candidate for the Senate. Lieberman is considered vulnerable mainly because of his support for the Iraq war, which is unpopular in Connecticut."

But those things can sometimes change once the ballots are counted and the voters have chosen a new standard bearer for the general election.

Not in this case.

Adam Sharp, Senator Landrieu's Communications Director, confirmed with me this morning that Landrieu will indeed support Lieberman over Democratic nominee Ned Lamont.

....committee's as well...

It is dead simple and straight forward, if you support a candidate that is running AGAINST A DEMOCRAT, YOU MUST LEAVE. PERIOD.

4. I guess the people of Louisiana are getting what they deserve, if they
allow this woman to stay in office. Personally, I find her horrible. So many things she's done since Hurricane Katrina to expose her true colors.

For instance, she would not stand with us on the filibuster of Alito, because she wanted to get on with business, even though Alito was a critical point in our country's future. At that point, I totally washed my hands of the woman. If the people of Louisiana vote for her again, they deserve whatever they get from her.

6. So many Louisianans are already suffering...
they certainly DO NOT not deserve such poor representation. No way. Landrieu is deluded enough to think this (and similar repulsive actions/votes) will save her, given the purge of Democrat-supporting poor and minorities from Katrina-ravaged areas.

7. What we deserve?
What would you have us do? Turn over that Senate seat to a puke? Because that is the alternative. If you really want me to go out and campaign for the puke candidate, just let me know. She has an entrenched machine, and there are no challengers that currently want to face that machine....I truly wish there was such a candidate.

11. I would never ask anyone to support a Repuke, that would likely be
even worse.

Dems need to get involved, get organized, and find good candidates to run against the ones who won't do what they should do for their constituents. I know things in Louisiana are bad, and it's a shame because it is a beautiful state.

Where I live, we have Republicans running virtually unopposed, because there aren't any Dems to run against them. We need to get organized as well, but I think you have a much better chance in Louisiana than we do in Oklahoma.

26. Hey, why don't YOU HELP us do something about it instead of making
capricious comments.

We're too busy putting roofs on our houses, fighting the insurance companies, and burying our dead, among a thousand other things.

Have you volunteered to help us here in Louisiana?

What have you personally done to help New Orleans residents?

Have you done more than Mary Landrieu to help us?

30. I'm going to try to be civil here.
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 02:50 PM by AndyA
After Hurricane Katrina, my Website ran front page ads encouraging people to donate money to the various charities in Louisiana, everything from the Red Cross to animal rescue. This took big time advertising bucks out of my pocket. All of the ads ran for over 2 months, and some of them were there for over 6 months. Offhand I don't know how much money was raised, but from the feedback I got, it was considerable.

No, I did not personally come down to Louisiana to help, however I did donate cash, food, water, and new clothing to local charities helping the survivors who were relocated here after Katrina.

Find someone else to pick on and challenge, I've done everything I was able to do to help. Nice to know it was appreciated. Why not start with Landrieu?

34. Want to be civil? Then take back what you said in your first commment.
"I guess the people of Louisiana are getting what they deserve," - That does not sound very charitable.

"Nice to know it was appreciated." - That passive-agressive comment was not necessary either, for how could I possibly know if you donating anything to help us, especially after your first, callous comment in this thread.

10. She is probably as real as we can get.
We have 5 of our 7 reps already Repuke (and we may lose one of them in November) and one Rep Senator (Vitter). Landrieu can at least keep committees going in the Dem direction. If we lost her, we would probably end up with 2 Repubs.

She's a DINO but I shudder to think what we might get.

Senate. The Democratic party is not ready!

It is now that we must clean house of the garbage that has been strangling the democratic party for decades.

That is a major reason why you should NOT SUPPORT the DNCC, which gives money to all Democratic incumbents, no matter what a peice of shits they are!

22. Will Joementum be supporting any of Louisiana's issues in return?
For instance, the state's claim to money from offshore oil and gas leases, all of which now goes directly to the feds so they can lavishly fund FEMA and the Corps of Engineers :sarcasm:

As I recall, he did take the bus tour of the devastation in New Orleans, and amazingly, had even more of that hangdog basset-hound look than usual. This would be a chance for him to show his basic decency :sarcasm: and actually do something for the region.

25. They're like the 60% solution.
Democratic enough to enable people to say "Well would you rather have a Republican, look at all the things they voted for!" And sure enough on forty percent of the things they did. But where the rubber meets the road and the corporate interests really count they reliably vote AGAINST the People's interests, 60% of the time. Hence, 60% Dems.

But we got to have them for all those deeply Conservative States (think Ben Nelson, who sits on the left side of the aisle, but other than that...) or we'd have Republicans, remember that before someelse has to tell you.

31. You know for a Democratic official it is just plain STUPID
to support LIEberman - basically LIEberman is saying screw you Democratic primary voters I don't care what you think and any "party" person to go against the party nominee is politically bizarre. She has a perfect way out - she is a Democrat and as such has to support and RESPECT the nominating process of the party....

Our slogan regarding Holy Joe should be why doesn't Joe RESPECT THE VOTERS....jesus no wonder these freaks don't care about the black box voting - they couldn't give a shit about any voter.

All elected politicians who want the $$$, power and support of the big D machine MUST support the Democrat chosen in the primaries.

If she wants to play outside of that system, she needs to lose the advantages of the Democratic party. PERIOD.
