Swan can't make a dent in Rendell's 20 pt lead
HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania (AP) -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers star Lynn Swann didn't put so much as a dent in Gov. Ed Rendell's lead among Pennsylvania voters over the past two months, despite his stepped-up campaign in the race for governor, a new poll released Wednesday shows.

Rendell led Swann 54 percent to 34 percent in the latest Quinnipiac University poll of registered voters, little change from a June poll that found the former Philadelphia mayor leading Swann 55 percent to 31 percent.

And now teammate Franco Harris has signed on with Rendell (sorry for saying Casey in another thread; distracted by damn work today). And he's much better-liked than Swan.

1. I *love* Franco Harris
He is very involved in Democratic politics around the Pittsburgh area. He was at an event for my cousin when he was running for mayor of one of the townships there. BTW, my cousin won.

2. "Swann needs President Bush to help win back those Republicans"
President Bush has 32% approval rating in Pennsylvania. How the hell is THAT going to help Lynn Swann

5. Together Swan and Bush beats Rendell handily....
Bush at 32% and Swan at 34%, well that's 66%.
Let's get Bush in there as soon as possible and as often as possible!

Together they will 'whup' that evil Rendell

6. This is one race where I had no doubt.
Swann attempting to win the governorship here has been a joke from day one. He's going to get crushed.

7. I like the fact that Bush is being drawn in
the more he 'nationalizes' these local races, the better.

8. Unassuming blue collar hard worker vs the ballet pansy pretty boy?
Easy choice for your standard yinzer. Dunno about the rest of the state.

Note: I don't *endorse* the characterizations in the subject line - I'm just expressing how your average yinzer is likely to think of the contrast. If anything, I pulled my punches in that likely characterization.
