It's catching on: the meme is changing - R = weak, D = strong and smart
Rs are weak and think America is too weak to defeat terrorists without resorting to all out war.

Ds are strong enough to resist overreacting and use smart tactics that ACTUALLY WORK.

Keep pushing this meme. When Neanderthal Joe Six-Pack realizes that a vote for an R means that he is a coward that is afraid of very very weak enemies, he will stay home (he still won't vote for a D because the Ds make him feel bad about being racist redneck asshole).

1. Agree with your assessment of R & D motives and tactics, but

I wish that "Neanderthal Joe Six-Pack" DIDN'T have "Ds mak(ing) him feel bad about being racist redneck asshole."

It's too true: many on the Left are happy to vilify these voters. We should be recruiting instead...aren't Democrats the Big Tent people? Doesn't democracy demand that we work for gains while acknowledging our differences? Maybe making fun of rubes and hicks---I know it as well as any, growing up in Appalachia---isn't the way to true victory.

 I'm just sayin'....

2. Ridicule is an effective form of social pressure
It worked with drunk driving and cigarette smoking, and now it will work with Republicanism.

5. As a cigarette smoker, I'd have to disagree.
Want to know the effects that people's ridicule on smoking has on me? It changes nothing about my behavior (I'm already very considerate of others' air-rights in my vicinity) but makes me angry and sad at name-calling zealots.

Not effective.

6. Well of course not,
but is the way to change things only found in alienating, marginalizing? Is that kind of tactic working so well for the NeoCons in their war on terra? Shutting your opponents (or those that disagree) out doesn't mean they disappear.

10. So we shouldn't call people out on their racism?
I think it is every American's DUTY to verbally assault anyone that spouts racist shit.

Of course, the OP was about showing how cowardly an act voting for a Republican is.

7. I differentiate the Neanderthal Joe Six Pack from normal Joe Six Pack
There is an element of the population that is so bone-heaed, mean spirited, narrow minded, negative and deliberatly ignorant that they will enthusiastically support polcies and actions and an indeology that is obviously harmful to Americas and the world.

Those are the neanderthals who would vote for an aardvark if it was a Republican one.

But there are many other Joe Six-Packs who are decent and have common sense but have been misled by the GOP's ecellent marketing ability, their fearmongering and who have also been disappointed by the ineffectualness of the Democrats.

The latter category are the ones who the Democrats can reach, if we start showing some grit and start showing a real alternative to Corporate CONservatrism, Neo-Conism, Religious Fanaticsm and the rest of the GOP package.

I hope there are more of the latter than the former. That's ultimately what this election will be about.

9. EXACTLY, Armstead!

There seems daily to be a DU thread containing an anecdote like : "Now my freeper mother-in-law has seen the light"; "My Repug neighbor says he's had it with the Chimperor," etc.
These are successes, and show we're on a winning team. Each person "converted" counts double: one fewer R voter, and one more for the Dems. That, IMHO, is the real progress....
