Cynthia McKinney Criticizes Electronic Voting Machines
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 04:09 AM by Dinger

By KATE BRUMBACK, Associated Press Writer Tue Aug 15, 11:55 PM ET

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Rep. Cynthia McKinney, in her first public appearance since losing her re-election bid last week, said Tuesday that the black community needs to oppose electronic voting machines, which she warned can be used to steal elections.

McKinney also said the state of Georgia should prohibit crossover voting among political parties in primary elections and end its system of runoff elections. . . . .

. . . . . . .

I stand with you Cynthia!

8. Cynthia McKinney isn't representative of the Democratic Party
She's way outside of the mainstream, and that's why she lost and nobody "did her in"....the only thing that did Cynthia McKinney in was Cynthia McKinney.

Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 08:27 AM by derby378
...then it's not for us to decide. Those machines need to be fully investigated. If Cynthia truly lost, then she lost. But if Diebold is involved, all bets are off.

But I could believe she lost by a lot of Repug crossover votes. Just IMHO...

4. I agree that she probably lost due to the crossover BUT
the spread is NOT TOO MUCH for the Touchscreen magic. Look at OH in 05, where the refendums related to making voting more fair were favored to pass by about 60-40% according to a very accurate Columbus newspaper poll and then lost by 60-40%, a 40%-point flip.

Anything's possible when it comes to the touchscreens, and that would be even more true where there's not even any paper as I presume is true in GA at the moment. However, the pre-election polling as I understand showed she was behind.

My belief is that she would have lost anyway, but the touchscreens padded her loss by a right smart, maybe as much as 10 points. Who knows?

And the people had had enough of her bizarre conspiracy theory nonsense and so they voted for a normal person to represent them.

19. I believe that we are fooling ourselves to believe
that an election has to be close to steal. If "they" are electronically flipping the vote - what possible difference does it make how big the margin is - because the MSM isn't questioning this issue - many Dem officials hardly make a peep over it - the ones who do are called tinfoil hat nut jobs - they are making excuses about exit polls - probably didn't even do exit polls in this race - and eventually if the repunks have their way there won't be any exit polls

All that being said I think there was a combination of reasons Cynthia lost - cross over voting - her people not getting their sorry butts out to vote - her incident with the Capitol Police and maybe even the machines. After the crap that went on in GA in 2000 there is not doubt in my mind that if they need to or want to they can fix these results.

32. "magic" is a good term for the conspiracy theories
Edited on Thu Aug-17-06 09:54 AM by slackmaster
Nobody has put together a comprehensive, complete explanation of how an entire election could be rigged by exploiting the known vulnerabilities of hundreds or thousands of individual machines spread out over wide geographic areas and under the control of an army of people. Rigged to a great enough extent to control the outcome, and then somehow always avoid detection and scrutiny. No busts, no criminal investigations, no whistle-blowers going straight to the media.

There is always at least one giant leap of faith, like the box in the flowchart that says "Then a miracle occurs".

Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 05:50 AM by ...of J.Temperance
Thank goodness the voters of that Georgia Congressional district finally hauled her ass out of Congress....anyone who babbles on and on about MIHOP and LIHOP and goes on the Alex Jones radio show to babble about their belief in conspiracy theories is definately a lunatic.

Cynthia McKinney is so far out of the mainstream it's ridiculous.

That Georgia Congressional district deserved better than Cynthia McKinney and thank goodness they're going to get someone better and far more normal a person than Cynthia McKinney to represent them in Congress.

Ms. McKinney has been a voice, loud and clear, against the established politicians who are leading this country over the cliff. If it embarasses you that she refuses to support bushco, then maybe you aren't quite with the program?

10. McKinney may have been anti-Bush, but she was also a racist
Every single one of her speeches are black this, black that, white this, white that. Her father is also well-known to hate Jews. And she has the Black Panther party supporting her, who nearly started a race riot outside her HQ after the primary loss.

Best to just throw her out...

30. Lets see
The election was stolen.
9/11 was covered up but is used as a sledge hammer against the constitutional wall.
Iraq's WMD caused a grevious war which has cost billions.

That's a short summation of the BIG problems that need to be dealt with and Ms. McKinney has confronted those problems head on and you have deserted her?

With that kind of attitude so prevalent toward the leaders who are fighting against the biggest of problems, it leads me to believe we are doomed to doing nothing else but getting over it, since we have so much fear about supplying ammo to the freepers.

17. Cynthia and Billy McKinney are both racist
Let's not forget that when they both lost their seats, Billy was on a stage babbling about how "Jewish involvement" had made them lose their seats.

Just because a person is against Junior, doesn't mean that one has to support that person, if that person has proven that they're obviously not a rational and logical person.

Cynthia McKinney was incredibly damaging to the image of our party, we don't need her, and I'm very glad that she's been turfed out by her constituents....we'll keep that Georgia Congressional seat easily which is good....hopefully Cynthia McKinney will just fade away and join the rest of her mindset on the fringe of mainstream politics.

23. Cynthia McKinney discussing black issues is no different from--and no
less "touchy" than--the Anti-Defamation League's discussion of Jewish issues. There are GOOD REASONS for the "touchiness"! And if what someone's FATHER believed is cause to condemn someone, than many of us are damned.

There are a lot of charges being thrown around here, and no quotes. How about a quote from her father demonstrating that he "hates" Jews? Or is it that he just CRITICIZED Jews, or Israel?

And here you are criticizing the Black Panther Party! Do you hate blacks?

24. "Screeching"?
Not "with the program"? Whatever do you mean?

Lunatic? Screeching? Embarrassment? (--embarrassing to whom?). Babbling? Conspiracy theory nonsense?

Your words are so intemperate that I trust your statements not at all.

MIHOP and LIHOP are quite reasonable theories of 9/11. And those who call them "nonsense" sound like the white bigots in the south who lied about, and covered up, and smeared over with honeysuckle, all the lynchings and rapings of black citizens that accompanied segregation and its systematic oppression of blacks. They said THESE THINGS DO NOT EXIST. But their ability to cover them up did not make them "nonsense."

We are looking at a government with vast powers to cover up their crimes--and a "Swiss cheese" of an official story, so full of holes that it's laughable. It is NOT lunacy to question it--nor to form theories about why and how the official story doesn't hold up and "what really happened" on that day.

It is one of Cynthia McKinney's abiding accomplishments--something for which I shall be forever grateful to her--to bring an official, legislative voice to the two most important public discussions going on in this country, that almost no other legislator has addressed: the holes in the Bushites' 9/11 story, and the outrageous installation of paperless electronic voting, controlled by Bushite corporations, using TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code.

It is no wonder to me that she was taken down for it. These are TABOO SUBJECTS in our war profiteering, corporate/fascist establishment. They are the two mechanisms of fascist rule.

And anyone who thinks that she WASN'T taken down is either naive, or a propagandist with an agenda. I'm sorry, but I have lived too long--through too many assassinations and "swiftboatings"--not to recognize a filthy corrupt establishment protecting itself.

And quite frankly, I don't give a damn how you perceive me. Or anyone else for that matter. My point is that McKinney has done damage to the cause of the Democratic party, rather than helping it.

And yes, saying "Deserting the real fighters of bushco means that one might as well enlist in the army and fight their bloody wars. " strikes me as a "with us or against us" attitude. It implies that disagreement with any opponent of Bush, no matter how odious, amounts to tacit support of Bush. I do not agree, for obvious reasons.

If you cannot understand that my dislike of McKinney and her shtick does not translate into love of Bush, or assistance of Bush, then perhaps you should consider finding an interest other than politics to occupy your time.

Shows a lack of respect, imo. Especially in the political field of which you seem to profess to be a gate keeper.

A disagreement with a democratic party member is one thing, but to slander a leader of the party, a leader no less who has stood firmly in opposition to bushco, is questionable... hence the questions. Questions, I might add that have gone unanswered, except to leave open the negative perceptions.

Who, pray tell, in your book, has been effectively engaged in combatting the greatest threat our democracy has ever faced?

Or the Tuskegee Experiments. Just a bunch of conspiracy theory that decent, well-educated white doctors would knowingly infect black prisoners with syphillis and then not treat it in order to view the agony of the disease's progress.

The idea that Enron would purposefully deny California power? Conspiracy theory long into the scandal...until revelead by the "Fat Man" and "Death Star" audio tapes. Google it if you don't remember or didn't notice at the time (certainly these things never made it to TV for any kind of discussion, but they were reveal in the newspapers that no one reads anymore).

Nixon and his bunch successfully portrtayed watergate as a similar conspiracy theory until the overwhelming weight of evidence forced them to acknowledge being busted. How Old American of them.

Oh my yes, and the Tuskegee Experiments were a "colored conspiracy theory", which to Busheviks is even wrse than a plain old conspiracy theory.

In short yes, nearly all conspiracies, berfoe they are caught (IF they are caught) are portrayed as wacky conspiracy theories by the perpetrators and their allies.

need I mention the Nazis and the Reichstag?

25. I think McKinney is good for the House, good for the U.S.,
and I support her. I only need to say it once per thread, lol.

33. She has outlived her usefulness IMO
Out with the old, in with the new.

37. How's that?
What do you think McKinney's usefulness was, and how is it useful no more?

Personally i think it's always useful to have people stand up against corruption, abuse of power, and other forms of injustice - regardless of their age.

38. Her bad personal behavior has overwhelmed everything she's done
Four word summary: Loose cannon on deck.

Personally i think it's always useful to have people stand up against corruption, abuse of power, and other forms of injustice - regardless of their age.

Rebels are always needed, but when their verbal outbursts and temper tantrums become the first thing the public thinks of when their names are mentioned they are no longer a positive influence.

71. So it was OK for her to hit that cop?
I don't care what he said or did. She had no business striking the man.

34. Last three primaries in her district...
She has lost twice and won once. Enough said. If we respect the primary voters of CT we sure as hell are gonna respect them in GA.

41. Pretty subtle for her...
A way for her to insinuate she lost because of voter fraud...of which there is no evidence...

Election reform is a wothry cause, but Cynthia McKinney is not who we want out front on it...

Cynthia was demolished in her primary.

52. Indeed.
There's something to be said for leaving the stage with grace. Lieberman and McKinney are both entirely about themselves and nothing else - certainly not their constituents.

(This, by the way, is also the issue I have with George Galloway, but that's an entirely different flame war.)

54. Demolished?
By what? The diebold machines? The mass media that reports only negative things on all democrats?

Nevertheless, the constant barrage against Ms. McKinney leaves, in my mind, a certain condolence to the way things are going on the ship of state.

Have a nice trip!

How can I argue with you - you have presented several references without any evidence - that is not an argument.

I liked Cynthia and I'm sad that she lost. C'est la vie.

60. She's had a problem with those machines since 2000.
The documentary "American Blackout" shows the hearings that she headed in Georgia to figure out exactly what happened in Florida after the 2000 elections. I watched her question Diebold officials about their methods, particularly their purious methods of purging "felons" from the voter rolls, at the request of the Florida Sec of State's office. And as I recall, she also spoke on the documentary about disenfranchisement of voters in Ohio in 2004.

No longer being a Georgia resident, I've stayed out of this debate. It isn't up to me to decide McKinney's effectiveness as a representative. I've read a lot of criticisms of her on here, and I can't categorically deny that any of them are valid. However, whatever your opinion of her, on this particular point McKinney has made her opposition to electronic voting machines very clear for a long time.

80. That's 100% false
Have you seen the film "American Blackout"? She had a huge team of lawyers register complaints and do monitoring of the machines in 2004 to assure that the election was run fairly, to combat what was happening in 2000 and 2002.

62. I Wish She Wouldn't Have In This Context.
She is criticizing them in relation to her primary loss. There is no doubt in my mind that she lost openly and legitimately (from a voting machine standpoint) and is a fool for blaming the loss on the machines. By doing so, it deflects in my opinion from the very REAL issues with e-voting that we must address. When we pull out the evoting card no matter what, even in a landslide loss such as this one, then it turns off those we are trying to get on our side and listen to the facts. They will instead find the notion more absurd and insignificant because a politician is crying foul with them when it is logically evident they were not responsible at all.

I know I'm not putting this into words right, but I wish she wouldn't be attacking these machines in relation to her loss. It puts a cry wolf label on a very serious issue.

She should know! They've thrown every trick in the book at her. Her voice is dangerous to the right wing. Truth always shines light on those republican cockroaches and makes 'em scatter.

79. She and Congressman Lewis did the ONLY INVESTIGATION into Choicepoint
They had Choicepoint of Alpharetta testify about the debauchery of what happened with the voting rolls in Florida.

The only living copy of that testimony was taken by Atlanta Indymedia. Local news stations were also there, but they mysteriously never aired their footage or have handed it over.

McKinney and Lewis took on the worst conspiracy in American times: the stealing of the 2000 elections. The right dealt with McKinney, and Lewis has been playing it safe (so different from the him of 40 years ago, no?).
