Bush is a Yalie and also an MBA from Harvard but talks like he
is still in High School...and sometimes, in Jr Prep....

Having the CHEERS Syndrome, he gads about like a drunk in a bar...huggin, kissin and rubbin shoulders even..

His command of the English Language leaves me questioning his education and the value of his degrees.

The Pubs see this man as a Hero? WTF is wrong with this Picture?

27. Okay... so... about being a C-student MBA
Do you guys know how hard it is to get a C in any MBA class?

Seriously...

Most MBA programs, although extremely rigorous, are ranked in some way by their own GPA stats. Stupid, I know. But that's the way it is.

As such, some no longer use the traditional A-F grading method. But, for those that do - you pretty much have to piss off the whole world, miss 80% of the classes, and die during the final to get anything less than a C.

recommendation, IMO.

From what one of his professors says, he was an asshole and a blowhard of the first order, and apparently not too intellectually rigorous with himself or others. For those who have forgotten, let's review:

...Yoshihiro Tsurumi, an avowed opponent of Bush’s current views and policies who was a visiting associate professor of international business at HBS between 1972 and 1976, said Bush was among 85 students he taught one year in a required first-year course. In the class on “Environment Analysis for Management,” incorporating elements of macroeconomics, industrial policy and international business, Tsurumi said students discussed and debated case studies for 90 minutes several times a week.

Tsurumi—now a professor of international business at Baruch College in the City University of New York—said he remembers the future president as scoring in the bottom 10 percent of students in the class.

Thirty years after teaching the class, Tsurumi said the twenty-something Bush’s statements and behavior—“always very shallow”—still stand out in his mind.

“Whenever just bumped into me, he had some flippant statement to make,” said Tsurumi when reached at his home in Scarsdale, N.Y. “The comments he made were revealing of his prejudice.”

The White House did not reply to requests for comment on Bush’s time at HBS.

Tsurumi said he particularly recalls Bush’s right-wing extremism at the time, which he said was reflected in off-hand comments equating the New Deal of the 1930s with socialism and the corporation-regulating Securities and Exchange Commission with “an enemy of capitalism.”

“I vividly remember that he made a comment saying that people are poor because they’re lazy,” Tsurumi said.

Tsurumi also said Bush displayed a sense of arrogance about his prominent family, including his father, former U.S. President George H.W. Bush.

didn’t stand out as the most promising student, but...he made it sure we understood how well he was connected,” Tsurumi said. “He wasn’t bashful about how he was being pushed upward by Dad’s connections.”

9. During The HEIGHT Of Legacy Grade Inflation, Too!
The Ivy league admitted, en masse, back in the 70's, that from the late 50's to the early 70's, they had a grotesque issue with legacy grade inflation. They changed all kinds of legacy policies in around 1978 at Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Brown, and another school (i forget which) so that legacies actually had to pass muster or it was "see ya". They were trying to stay ahead of the affirmative action curve at the time, and were trying to open up seats.

I saw the criteria for admittance to Ivy League schools back then (sorry, I don't have the link) that really heavily weighted the fact that he had had relatives that graduated from Yale - Poppy - and also donated money to the school. It was a much greater weight than test scores, if I recall.

24. I seriously doubt Junior did a lick of real academic work.
As a late-60s college undergraduate and graduate student in the early 70s, I became painfully aware of the number of rich kids who hired better students to write their papers and take their exams. There was a "draft effect" in those days -- the better students needed tuition money and the moneyed students needed academic 'support' to get passing grades. "Professional college students" were, until about 1972, able to avoid the draft. If they could do it until they were 26 years old, they escaped. The 'market' was made. Not only did Smirk get admitted based solely on his 'legacy' status (UofT refused him), there's not a shred of doubt in my feeble mind that he had others do his academic work. Most of the faculty turned a blind eye on it in those days - if only because the impoverished students needed the gigs. When even Junior's connections and money didn't get him into UofT (or any other graduate school), the strings were pulled to get him into the TANG, with the least qualifications of anyone at that time.

51. i generally agree with the main points of your post...
...but would point out a few discrepancies. The deferment for graduate students was terminated in 1967 or '68; the deferment for college students in 1970. Every deferment a piece of draft-bait got extended their eligability to be drafted, up to a maximum of 36 years of age (maybe 37--been so long i'd have to dig out my old Tatum and Tuchinsky to look it up). One thing about Junior's TANG "service"--not only was he legacy-leaped over some 70 more qualified applicants to get into the Guard, not only was he allowed to be AWOL most of the time, not only was he separated from service prematurely, he was never properly trained as an officer either--went from boot camp to pilot school to AWOL to proud "i served my country in uniform during war" vet without ever passing through OCS inbetween. Was never instructed in command procedures or responsibilities...which explains quite a lot about his callous lack of concern for the troops he so carelessly wastes on the most expensive of unworthy ventures and lost causes.

52. your niece is a thousand times more deserving than Bush!
I bet she will be far more productive (and do much less damage) than Georgie -- regardless of which schools she attends. I can't help but feel a bit sorry for Andover, Yale, and Harvard. They seemed to have zero impact on shaping Bush's intellect. I work at a much less famous college, and I know that the staff are very happy when a student not only learns something, but goes on to make the world even a little better, by applying it in a positive way. We like to be optimistic and hope that there is no such thing as "wasted" education, even if it takes years to make any difference ... but in Bush's case, alas ...

My co-worker's niece was accepted to Harvard Business School, and she was elated ... she really worked her butt off to get high grades.

Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 02:40 PM by KamaAina
that is, his sole qualification for admission was that his surname is "Bush".

In fact, right around the time he left, Yale toughened its admissions standards for legacies. It still doesn't hurt to be a Bush, or Bass or whatever, but now you also have to prove that you yourself have something on the ball.

I can just hear the deans discussing the change: "Dammit, we can't ever let anything like this happen again! I don't care if his name is Bush, we will not have students who wear lampshades on their head to class!"

It used to be a sign of great accomplishment -- a Yale doctorate -- and it's sad to see him cheapening it. They should take back both his undergrad diploma and his honorary degree!

A former prof of mine who used to arrange convocations for another university says she suspects he absconded with that robe. Standard procedure is for honorary degree recipients to keep the special hood, but give back the gown after the ceremony!

46. and then he complained Yale "went downhill since they admitted women"
http://www.dubyaspeak.com/incidents.phtml?page=3

"When did you graduate?" Bush asked her, as she recalls. She told him. That's when Bush told her that Yale "went downhill since they admitted women."

"I said, 'Excuse me?'" Novick says. "I thought he was kidding. But he didn't seem to be kidding. I said, 'What do you mean?'"

Bush replied that "something had been lost" when women were fully admitted to Yale in 1969, that fraternities were big when he'd been there, providing a "great camaraderie for the men." But that went out the window when women were allowed in, Bush said.

"He said something like, 'Women changed the social dynamic for the worse,'" she says. "I was so stunned, shocked and insulted, I didn't know what to say."

Note that Bush's daughter Barbara went to Yale. I wonder if he ever retracted his remarks?
