1. OK - I think DU should declare a moratorium on dissing
Southern states for "electing" Shrubie.

Clearly, it's the mid-Western states that have the problem.

8. And THAT, by the way, is maybe the only thing that'll save Doyle's ass
for him in the Governor's race--if he can tar Mark Green with the Bush brush.

10. I'm from Wisconsin.
What is your opinion on how Doyle is doing as a Govenor? I know under Thompson he bleed the state dry-financially speaking.

16. Doyle is a mixed bag.
He has definitely cut public expenditures and brought the budget back down. However, he did this largely through cutting various public services and bringing about massive reductions in the numbers of state employees. Futher cuts in the public workforce are likely to come if he is re-elected. The costs of this approach are, first, a massive alienation and demoralization of state employees, and second, some significant harm to the quality and extent of public services in this once-progressive state. He has done nothing to rein in the Thompson-era giveaways to business or to restore a more equitable tax structure. He's also backing a primary challenger to our Attorney General.

The biggest black marks against him are in the area of apparent letting of certain contracts to cronies and big contributors.

Overall, most hard-core Dems are not big Doyle supporters. Fortunately, Green seems pretty well smeared up with Abramoff money, which does at least allow us to confront the Puggies with "Your guy is dirtier than our guy."

Personally, I'll vote for Doyle (or at least against Green), but I have no particular interest in working for Doyle.

I think the Dems made a mistake in 2002 by not nominating Tom Barrett. Interestingly in retrospect, Kathlen Falk, the woman he's backing against Peg Lautenschlager for AG, also ran in the 2002 primary and split away a significant percedntage of the progressive vote from Barrett, therby permitting Doyle to win the primary.

5. WTF is up with CA lately?
First, Ah-nold's approval ratings actually go up and he's inexplicably ahead of his Dem challenger so far, and now Chimpy's approval rating goes up 6%? WTF is up with that?

11. I live in California and I know for a fact that Maria was run out
of a rally in Santa Cruz Co. about 3-4 weeks ago. Arnold's #'s went up BY DESIGN. Same with Little Lord Pissypants. Rove's people are running Arnold's campaign. That's why the poll numbers are rising. Nothing is as it seems.

13. Bush jumped to 33% in MA--prior to this he had been in the mid 20s
Why is he showing improvement in some of these blue states? not that 33% is so great.
