Will there be a pre-election troop withdrawal from Iraq?
The CW for the last year was that Team Baby Bush would announce a big troop pullout from Iraq, to create the impression that we are "turning the corner" in Iraq before the elections. There would be parades and much publicized footage of troops coming home to overjoyed wives and children.

Now I think that it is increasingly unlikely that this will take place before the election. More troops were moved into Baghdad. The number of troops in Iraq is statistically the same as the equilibrium of about 130,000 that has been the size of the force for 3 years.

4. I don't think so
It's possible, but theyd be trying to set it up more than they have.

It seems like the Republicans Message is "They want to cut and run adn we want to finish the job." If they were planning this it would be "Democrats believe we are failing in Iraq, but we are winning." Now I know they are saying both messages to a certain extent, but the first one seems far mor prevelent.

5. The thing about reality and unforeseen events
is that no mortal has control over reality and unforeseen events.

What would have wanted, they simply can't get based on the facts on the ground...which they lost control of the day that they invaded Iraq! That's why waging war cannot be done for political purposes as it has a way of backfiring on ya!

My cousin's kid is finishing his training at Fort Hood, and he's been advised that he'll be deployed in October.

7. My bet is they'll ANNOUNCE PLANS for a major troop extraction
to begin right after the election. Troops home for Xmas kinda thing. Then after they "win" in November, the situation will "change" & we'll need to cancel the withdrawal & make one more big push to Take Care of the Terrorist Problem once and for all. This big push will not, of course, take care of the terrorist problem (except to intensify it), but it will further enrich Halliburton, Carlyle, GE, etc.
