Right wingers frothing over Pepsi's new CEO
New Pepsi CEO is exec who sparked boycott effort

PepsiCo today named President and Chief Financial Officer Indra Nooyi as chief executive, effective Oct. 1. Pepsi will be the second-largest U.S. firm to be headed by a woman, behind Archer Daniels Midland, where Patricia Woertz is CEO.

Nooyi's promotion is also newsworthy because of the controversy she created in May 2005 with a speech to MBA graduates at the Columbia Business School. In the talk, she spoke of the world's continents and leading nations as being akin to a hand's five fingers. She referred to the USA as "the long middle finger" and said the nation "must be careful that when we extend our arm in either a business or political sense, we take pains to assure we are giving a hand . . . not the finger."

That speech outraged some bloggers, notably the guys at Power Line, where Scott Johnson today reminds his readers of the calls last year by some conservatives for a boycott of Pepsi products. Johnson also links to this piece he wrote last year for The Daily Standard, where he laid out what Nooyi had said and Pepsi's responses to the criticism.

some comments from the RWers.
>>>
Maybe Pepsi’s new slogan should be: “Pepsi is the beverage preferred by liberal elites, progressives, and secularist because we know better!” By the way, I am a lifelong Diet Pepsi drinker who is switching to Diet Coke.
>>>
I'tll be hard. But I'm going to do it. No more PepsiCo products for me. Brand loyalty is one thing. But disloyalty to your country is another. As long as she was CFO I didn't care, because she wasn't calling all the shots. But now she is, so now I won't.

1. Somehow this doesn't surprise me...
As the Goddess of Radio, Randi Rhodes, would say: "When they show you who they are, BELIEVE THEM!!" These people are disgusting, despicable racists. They are showing you who they are, so believe what you see!

That's all I have to say about this...

5. It's kind of ironic that they choose an Indian woman as CEO
Wasn't Pepsi banned in India just recently (like a week ago) due to pesticide content?

I wonder if that has something to do with their choice (ie., they want to get 'unbanned'), or if it's just coincidence.

7. I'm sure it didn't hurt her chances
But, I'm guessing the promotion has been lined up for a while, but just had not been announced to the public (or even Pepsi employees outside a select few) until this week.

What's wrong with that? I don't see anything wrong with what she said. And to answer the dumbass who said

Maybe Pepsi’s new slogan should be: “Pepsi is the beverage preferred by liberal elites, progressives, and secularist because we know better!” By the way, I am a lifelong Diet Pepsi drinker who is switching to Diet Coke.

RWers say that we don't have any ideas, but all that many of them can produce as "arguments" are a bunch of buzz-words such as the ones in that quote above. "lib'rul elits"....."secularist"....blah blah blah.

I'tll be hard. But I'm going to do it. No more PepsiCo products for me. Brand loyalty is one thing. But disloyalty to your country is another. As long as she was CFO I didn't care, because she wasn't calling all the shots. But now she is, so now I won't.

'Disloyalty to your country'? Where'd this genius get that?

Whatever, morans.

That term has been so over-used, it's practically meaningless now. I wonder if these idiots even know what a 'secular humanist' is. They just carelessly brand their political opposition with these terms.

15. they got that from their insane idea that the only way to treat another
country (or person who may be different) is as an enemy, and you don't extend your hand to the enemy unless it's a finger or a fist.

I can tell you where they get that idea too. Although maybe it's the other way around, and they like Dumbya 'cause he "thinks" like they do: poorly.

products based on taste. It's nice to know that there are philosphical benefits as well.

18. Doesn't the RW of America love to give the rest of the world the finger?
Edited on Tue Aug-15-06 03:28 PM by gatorboy
What's so false about her comments? Generally conservatives love flipping off the rest of the world, whether it's the mocking France (Part of the "Axis of Weasels") or praising the annihilation of some Middle East country. Their sheer hatred for the U.N. is built aorund the notion that NO ONE tells America what to do.

Basically, wingnuts love to flip the rest of the world the bird. The only thing is, when they're called on it, they give you the Scarlett O'Hara "Ah'm so shocked you think that!" treatment...

23. I've been successfully boycotting Pepsi AND Coke for four years now
Oh and to comment on the CEO's rather asinine statement:

"when we extend our arm in either a business or political sense, we take pains to assure we are giving a hand . . . not the finger." "

Sorry, lady. Your company gave us the finger a long time ago when it decided to pass off shitty food joints like Taco Bell, KFC, and Burger King as food.

25. Woohoo! I've long liked Pepsi and disliked Coke, based on taste.
In recent years, I've been boycotting Coke for their labor policies in the third world. Now I find a reason to approve of Pepsi's policies, in at least one respect.
