New movie- America Freedom to Fascism
I just got a call from a friend who told me about this movie. Up until now, he was one of those who wasn't involved. You know- politicians, they're all corrupt. But it appears this movie has him off his ass and trying to do what he can to make some change in this country. Even as liberal as he is, he is too busy producing recordings in his studio to feel the need to be involved. I think Americans have just begun to really wake up.

From the website-

"...The scariest damn film you'll see this year. It will leave you staggering out of the theatre, slack-jawed and trembling. Makes 'Fahrenheit 9/11' look like 'Bambi.' After watching this movie, your comfy, secure notions about America -- and about what it means to be an American -- will be forever shattered. Producer/director Aaron Russo and the folks at Cinema Libre Studio deserve to be heralded as heroes of a post-modern New American Revolution. This is shocking stuff. You'll be angry, you'll be disgusted, but you may actually break out in a cold sweat and feel a sickness deep in your gut; I would advise movie theatre managers to hand out vomit bags. You may end up needing one."
--- Todd David Schwartz, CBS

1. Russo is re-editing it. I can't wait to see it. I'm hoping the people
like your friend will get outraged and "give them Hell". I'm watching a police state being put in place and nobody (except DU) is noticing. Maybe this movie will help.

2. this is yet another anti-tax Libertarian flick, no?
While I can understand some of the Libertarian arguments, overall I think they are ridiculous. I may not love the idea of paying taxes, but I do recognize them as being a necessity in our society and the programs they pay for damn appropriate. I don't have kids, nor do I plan on it, but I still support school levies because education is important to the continuation of our societal success.

Sure, a lot of money gets wasted but show me anything that large with no waste - it's a myth that corporate business is not as wasteful.

anyway...

and this is not a pro-corporate film.

5. I know - I think I am just tired of this argument
only because my dad is a former Repug turned Libertarian and he is always going on about how all taxation should be voluntary, and how basic services like roads, Fire and Police should be private and competitive.

I'm sorry, but I cannot agree. Yes, I think our military budget is stupid, but I don't see how this will help the common person (most of us) at all. We live in a society that helps us in many ways - I see taxes like paying rent. If I don't want to pay rent, I will go live on an island or the woods where I get no benefit.

and for the record, although dad sees himself as self-made, he isn't. Not only has he had help in a variety of ways, but like all of us, his business relies upon the very society which he wants to starve.

And if people won't pay taxes when they have to (and yes, there really is a law that says you do, contrary to this film's message) then why would they pay them voluntarily?

The drive to abolish taxes is by the very rich and the corporations because they pay a larger share (in theory - most of them have loopholes to get out of as much as possible).

And a lot of these libertarians would filp out the first time they visited a for-profit hospital, or needed help from a for-profit fire department.

EDIT: come to think of it, for-profit police departments sounds like a Republican wet dream. Police protection only for those who can afford it.

7. That's throwing me off, too.
I haven't had time to look the website over. But that anti-tax stuff really gets me going. Anyways, it can't be all bad if it's focusing on the major evils in this present admin.

kick for whatever...
