So, now that Israel has claimed Victory of Hezzbollah...

When do they rebuild Lebanon for the Lebanese people? How much are they going to pay for reconstruction? What kind of humanitarian support are they offering?

I'm just asking...

1. I Don't Think Israel Declared Victory
Bush declared victory, but Bush is an idiot - pretty much everyone knows that.

2. Indeed
Israel's verdict: We lost the war

Ehud Olmert, the Israeli Prime Minister, was obliged to admit "shortcomings" in the 34-day-old conflict in Lebanon yesterday as he launched what may prove a protracted fight for his own political survival.

Mr Olmert's admission in a stormy Knesset session came in the face of devastating poll figures showing a majority of the Israeli public believes none or only a very small part of the goals of the war had been achieved.

5. Olmert is backpedalling today but yesterday
Edited on Tue Aug-15-06 01:48 PM by berni_mccoy
His words were "success" and "objectives met".

His political opponents in Israel have declared it a loss, but they do not speak for the Israeli gov't in the way that Olmert does.

Is Olmert in political hot water yes? But he still declared victory (see post above).

4. Sure they did. Here's the article
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060814/ap_on_re_mi_ea/lebanon_israel

Israeli Prime Ehud Olmert also claimed success, saying the offensive eliminated the "state within a state" run by Hezbollah group and restored Lebanon's sovereignty in the south.

Regardless of declared victory or not, what is Israel planning on doing for the Lebanese?

6. Success is Not Victory
The Israelis did have overall success. But they did not claim to be victorious over Hezbollah - who, incidentally, has sworn to destroy Israel and kill every Jew on the planet.

11. Success, Victory, Mission Accomplished,...
What's the difference. Israel said it was going after Hezbollah. But they've destroyed Lebanon and killed Lebanese. If everything Israel said is true about why they went to war, then they should be offering to assist the Lebanese in the FULLEST and with every resource they have.

Otherwise, they're objectives are suspect.

3. the idf and hezbollah both got cuts above their eyes so
so they had to accept the ceasefire. i have my doubts that it will hold without extreme pressure from the usa and syria/iran and i have no faith in any of these partys to do so......

7. I Think It Will Hold For Some Time.
I think that it will hold for some time - until Hezbollah (who has sworn to destroy Israeli and kill every Jew on Earth) is in material breach of the agreement, and Israel has developed a new strategy to deal with them.

8. Nobody "won" anything...
...a lot of leaders lied, a lot of people died, a lot of people are homeless and suffering.

There were no victors here...except for weapons contractors...

10. I'm not saying they did, I'm just saying that Israel said it
And they should be offering to help the Lebanese if everything they said about their reasons for going to war are true. Otherwise, they just sought to kill innocent civilians.

9. Well, after all, the insurgency is in its last throes.
I'm sure that all of the water revenue will be adequate for the rebuilding of Lebanon. ;-)
