Just Wondering DUers, What are The Chances That Couric Will Fizzle,
and her tenure with CBS will not be as long as her contract? I'm hoping her stay is a very short one, but as for me, one day is too many!

1. I think there is no doubt
She will pale compared to Brian Williams. Even Charlie Gibson on ABC will outperform her with ease If the heads at CBS are happy with third place (out of three) she'll stay awhile. The novelty of a female anchor is way behind us.

2. They Have Too Much Riding On Her....
They're going to give her a few years regardless, because who else do they have to go with?

I'm sure there are still plenty of brain dead morning show regulars who will tune into so they can see and hear her each day.

Don't worry about Katie. She'll be just fine, thank you.

11. She only has to read the freaking news
Perhaps the most overpaid job in the world. Kronkite and Rather were hands-on, they chose the stories, but today there will be no more of that. Demos will tell them what to lead with and we will see what was good about the evening news disintegrate. Let's face it, she's a relative airhead with a good way with the camera. One can only hope that it will make people READ more; a futile hope but not out of the realm of possibility.

4. well, that's two questions, really.
I think she'll fizzle but how willing CBS will be to admit that probably will depend on how much they paid for her. I don't hold out much hope that they'd replace her with anyone more suitable if she's their idea of a "news" anchor. :eyes:

5. i'm going to miss Bob Scheiffer, i was wrong about him, i thought he
would all * talking points all the time. From what i've read the ratings have gone up since he's been anchoring so why replace him with her? I don't think she'll do all that well but again i was wrong about Bob.

She is more about image and less about news.

8. My guess is that the perky girl next door persona
will have to be adjusted for the hard news, that the editorializing that she's touting in her promos will not be well received by the CBS audience, and that she will soon be joined by an old man brought out of retirement for "balance," whatever that's supposed to mean.

16. The ads about editorializing are BS, imho
I have to laugh every time she says something like, "People want to know the why behind the news. I plan to give them that." Utterly bogus.

9. Couric has no credibility. She is all fluff, no substance. She won't last.
CBS made a horrible mistake when they hired her. They did a big favor for NBC. If The Today Show could get rid of that piece of crap Matt Lauer, it might be worth watching again.

I expect the ratings may go up at first, because Katie will be such a spectacle, kind of like the two headed woman at the circus. But after the initial interest wanes, it's straight down for the ratings. I've always thought Couric will be reassigned to some news show, where her light news/light entertainment/light gossip concept would go over better.

When you want someone credible for news, you don't think of Katie Couric.

14. The thing about it is, the male Repugs are not going to watch because
she's a woman, and we all know that in the Freeper world, women are not equal to men.

Couric may be a hit with the Kool Aid sipping female Repugs, but the men won't be inviting a woman into their club anytime soon, unless she can fulfill a specific need, like Katherine Harris or Condi Rice. When done, the men in charge toss them aside and get a newer model...

12. I agree 100%
CBS screwed up big time. Couric will be a bust with the viewers. She is a proven corporate media whore and lacks the gravitas that people desire in a news reporter.

Speaking for myself, I was disgusted by Couric's ability to go along with the war-profiteering NBC agenda in her role at NBC. It showed she is an actress, not a journalist, and entirely lacking in scruples. She would hammer Democrats and lalalala with the neocons. NBC has become little better than Fox, and Couric was perfect in her role.

I hope they can her after a year.

17. nobody realy cares, the whole news organization needs to be sacked.

its network news, that is too insignificant to make any difference in the world of cable 24 hour news cycle, fox cable news, CNN, MSNBC, the internet blogs like this one and the rest.

Her show is not even a blip in the radar anymore.

21. Who cares?
The network nightly news (including PBS) and cable news is propaganda and misinformation. Couric's perky entrance
to the dog and pony show won't change a thing.
