Mexico poll protests turn violent

Mexican riot police fired tear gas and used clubs to break up a protest by supporters of left-wing presidential challenger Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Leftist lawmakers were among at least 30 people injured in the scuffles outside Congress in Mexico City.

Mr Lopez Obrador's supporters have been camped out in protest at the 2 July election they say was stolen by conservative rival Felipe Calderon.

This is the first time the authorities have used force on the protesters.

======================================

I see this as a harbinger of our own upcoming Midterm Elections. Will Americans be willing to occupy the streets when yet another election cycle is stolen by Diebold and the Neocons?

1. Police clubbings & tear gassing is now scuffling?
A grammatical nicety, that. In answer to your question, by God, we had better, it very well may be our last chance.

2. When you steal elections
The disenfranchised have no other recourse than to protest, and bring the country to a halt. Now with the government out to destroy the protestors with force, it could escalate out of control into a civil war. They need to give Obrador the presidency now to avoid further bloodshed.

4. Put titles like this in quotes, to emphasize their questionable content,
if you are constrained about using exact news article titles (in "Latest Breaking News"). Where you are NOT so constrained, if you want to use the LYING title for some reason, do it like this: "Police turn violent, but BBC says, 'Mexico poll protests turn violent.'"

The Mexican election protesters have NOT "turned violent." It is the POLICE who have "turned violent."

This is revealed in the first sentence of the article, but not in the title--which is only TWO LETTERS (e-r) from saying that "Mexico poll protest(E-R)s turn violent." Here's the first sentence of the article:

------

TITLE: "Mexico poll protests turn violent

FIRST SENTENCE: "Mexican riot police fired tear gas and used clubs to break up a protest by supporters of left-wing presidential challenger Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

--------

Even *I* read it as "protesters turn violent"--at first glance--and I'm pretty savvy at reading these things.

These journalistic tactics for slandering and marginalizing legitimate protest--and the bigger the legitimate protest, the more slander they inflict upon it--infuriate me. This is a disgraceful headline! The BBC ought to be ashamed. They generally don't write headlines like the lying SOBs in the corporate monopoly press.

Are we still so besotted with the "Mayberry" notion of the police that we don't know that it is THEY--these badgeless Darth Vader robocops, at the direction of the Corporate Rulers--who turn a perfectly peaceful civilian protest into a melee by ORCHESTRATED assaults--rib bruising, head bashing, tear gas and pepper spray hoses, and rubber and wooden bullets--against peaceful people? The BBC editors have people on the ground in the Americas, and they KNOW this.

-------

Now go to the BBC page, and take a look at the PHOTO. Which is the violence-intended party in this photo?

It's ridiculous. It's wrong. It's a lie. It is slander. --to say "Mexico POLL PROTESTS turn violent," and not "MEXICAN POLICE turn violent against poll protesters."

A damned lie. It slyly contradicts the actual content of the article.

6. GOOD point
I fully expected to read an article about how the protestors were violent. Instead, it's about police breaking up peaceful protests. Big Diff.

This is how they do it. This is how they twist the media in subtle ways. Well said, Peace Patriot.
