Somehow, I have trouble feeling any compassion for these particular "journalists".

2. I don't
I know nothing about the Fox News correspondent or the cameraman. I hope they're released unharmed. I'm not going to judge them.

3. Cali is right (and that's what I'll pray for, their safety).
And I will do the best to keep my mouth shut - I'll squelch any ill-advised jokes for the moment.

Thanks, Cali, I'm under control now.

;)

9. I don't actually want any harm to come to them...
It's just that after all that FOX has done to help promote the war, and doing everything in their power to provide unbalanced coverage, that it's ironic that they would find themselves victims.

Maybe I am a bit of a cynical bastard, though.

4. Jesus, that's horrific. Who cares who they work for, really?
A Fox employee in Gaza, who declined to give his name because he was not authorized to release information about the incident, said reporter Steve Centanni, a U.S. citizen, and a cameraman from New Zealand were kidnapped.

His bio: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,1182,00.html

Steve Centanni is a national correspondent for the FOX News Channel (FNC). He has been with the network since its inception in 1996 and has reported on numerous global news stories and events...
During his tenure, Centanni has provided extensive coverage of the Pentagon, the U.S. Supreme Court and the Presidential Campaign of Sen. Bob Dole in 1996. He traveled with former President Clinton during his 1996 presidential campaign and his second term in office.

Centanni, a California native, began his broadcast career as an anchor and reporter for radio stations in San Francisco and Oakland, Calif. For eight years he wrote and produced news segments for KRON-TV (formerly an NBC affiliate) in San Francisco. In 1989 he won the Alaska Press Club Award for producing a weekly news magazine show for KTUU-TV (NBC) in Alaska.

Centanni attended the University of Colorado and earned a Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting from San Francisco State University.

Either they'll let him go soon, or he's dead:

Palestinian police conducted vehicle searches after the abduction as the government denounced the action.

"This is not acceptable at all," Interior Ministry spokesman Khaled Abu Hilal.

None of the major militant groups in Gaza have claimed responsibility for the abduction and no demands have yet been made public.

Over the past two years, a number of foreigners have been kidnapped in Gaza. All have been freed unharmed, usually within hours. Most abductors demand the release of prisoners from Palestinian jails or jobs within the Palestinian Authority.

Bet the poor bastard wished he worked for some OTHER outlet other than the Dunce's favorite news channel....

5. Faux news has "reporters"?
Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 10:38 PM by Mr_Spock
I don't believe it. I thought they were "commentators".

8. Regardless of what I think about Faux News
We've create a security (or is it "insecurity"?) situation that threatens all who venture into Iraq.

Also, remember, Faux News has two components (well, more, but for our purposes, two).

One component are the news reporters, and they are reporters, and they go out and report news. How the stations chooses to spin it, is up to the station (graphics, music, all that shit). But the reporters probably worked for the station before Fox bought it out, or are just trying to make a living doing journalism, regardless of whether their end product will be used (or spun) or not.

The other component are the commentators, and we all know how we feel about them, but I don't think we'll see Rush or Bill O'Really's ass anywhere near the front lines in our lifetime.

So I think we still need to consider that the basic reporters of the network deserve prayer and rescue. Rush or Bill O', I probably wouldn't lose any sleep about, callous as that sounds, but they've created the same situation for others, but their average on-the-street, or even in-Iraq reporter, then yes, they're facing real dangers and should be respected for doing so.

10. if you can't feel compassion for these fellowmen, it says a whole
lot about who you are as a person. that is sad. and it is embarrassing to see something so ugly on this board.

i say this from my heart. it makes you no better.

It would be out of character for you bust out or your rigid, off the shelf, knee jerk, 'political philosophy'.

15. sad.
it's a sad commentary on the state of this nation that some members of a forum dedicated to preserving deomocracy are not moved by the heinous actions of an undemocratic people. do you also not care that civilians are also being killed in Lebanon? Iraq? Israel? what makes them different from these two American reporters? they are humans, are they not?

is this the time to politicize the destruction of humanity? where is that human connection? did someone else piss it away?

i've seen "cheerleader" being thrown around to justify the reporters being taken against their will. i hate Faux News as much as the rest of you, and i too wouldn't mind if hannity DIAF, but i can't cheer death. maybe i'm not jaded enough yet, but from where i see it, ignoring another man's life is the freeper thing to do. and i think we're better than that.

17. FoxNews is propaganda.
I really don't care one way or another about reporters that spread lies and propaganda. It's best to just ignore them. That is why, I really just don't care.

18. It's pretty sad, but...
.. when I first heard about this (this morning) the first thing that came to my mind was dirty tricks. What better way for FAUX to make their own news.

If it's true, I hope for his safe return. Right now though, I wouldn't put anything past FAUX or the *ies.

and seeing stories like "Brave Journalists on the front lines." We'll never hear the end of this. Trust me.
