And why is husband in all caps? And why do I even bother anymore?

And it's not a pretty picture.

3. That is one strange site
Can you imagine having morning sickness and reading that site? That would definitely make you toss your cookies.
I also think that she's giving her baby a pretentious name. I'm almost surprised that she has made "Tiffany" part of the name.

I'm a lover of names, so I'm always curious what people are naming their kids. THere have been some real doozies over there. My'rackle. That's Miracle... no, really... see what I mean? And as a teacher, I just cringe.

ETA: And the blinkies? My favorite are the ones that proclaim they're breast-feeding, stay at home moms who don't let their babies cry it out. They can get pretty militant. There is one blinkie that reads "Read milk for real babies, artificial milk for artificial babies." So, basically, if you choose to formula feed, you don't have a real baby. :eyes: I don't post, just read in amazement.

War is a force that gives us meaning.

Thank you T.S. Eliot and Chris Hedges.

..................

That's meaning we are incapable of generating ourselves, so we seek it from "our leaders" and Death is its Sacrament.

Cute babies, too bad we're giving them such a shitty world.

13. Can't tell you why....
but it drives me up the wall when they not only choose weird names - but they insist on weird spellings.
i.e. "piper" - why "pyper"? Huh?

Somehow, I think the "husband-in-caps" badge is not her own work. More like 'brainwashed in base housing'. Maybe if I were young and preggers with a husband overseas, I'd grab onto any silly putty they handed me too. Sad.

Having given that last remark of mine a bit more thought - No. I wouldn't hang on the silly putty. I'd be picketing the Commandant's office to end the fiasco. And wiring my Dad for bail money.

14. Pyper is tryndee!
It's very hip now to use alternative, creative spellings for your kids names. I don't mind some, but when it gets silly... yuck. And again, as a teacher, it drives me nuts. It's so hard to teach young children the rules of phonics when their names often break all the rules. "Honey, your name is a rule breaker" really doesn't go over well with the kids.

The next surge in popular names will be 'tryndee'. I just know it!

My daughter teaches/administrates a state pre-school and one of my favorite stories is about the greatest little guy who introduced himself like this: (with appropriate hand gestures); "I have a big round head like an "O" -so my name is Oscar".

Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 09:32 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
I mean you're seriously griping about a happy pregnant woman on a pregnancy board? For real?

This woman sounds like a terrific woman with a wonderful husband who she misses dearly. I'm sure she's quite lonely and writes or uses messages of strength such as that to help her through. And so what? Her husband is a marine and a damn brave man who serves our country proud. She absolutely should stand behind him 100% as should we. Enough animosity already. This woman did absolutely nothing to you.

Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 09:47 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
innocent people from keyboard bullies who attack for no reason other than seeking attention. What was your point in posting this? To attack some pregant woman who has a brave husband serving overseas that she misses? You find your attack on her worthy of respect how? You think this betters DU as a community by trashing the troops and their families without due cause how?

I care not about your childish responses as I didn't expect you to be someone to take seriously anyway. But I still call it like I see it and will always stand strong on defending innocent and beautiful people from the petty attacking bullies.

25. See how cute you are when you get mad? Adorable.
It's been so long since you've started a fight with me. I kinda missed you. You know what they said when we were kids: "If he's mean, maybe he's got a crush/" It's been so long since you've been crushin' on me. And you always call me such sweet names.

The angrier you get, the cuter you are! You've added more attention than I even expected. More than just one or two rolling eye posts. You've elevated me to keyboard bully! Wow!

Keep on bein' cute, sweetie! I can only count the days until you show up, fuming over another insignificant post!

Love 'ya lots!

Just for the record, damned if I have any recollection of having had words with you in the past. You have a better memory than I.

Please understand the reason I reacted with such disgust is because upon reading her post I sensed nothing but joy and a good heart. I'm sure she's in pain and terrified of her husband, and soon to be father of a new beautiful child, being stationed so far away in such a quagmire. My heart goes out to her.

36. I know she's missing her husband. I'm a military brat.
I remember missing Daddy. I focued particularly on the whole "my husband has your back" thing because that makes me crazy. Just nuts. I find it so dilusional.

And I would never post my opinion for her to see. Just here. I provided the link because I figured someone would ask where it came from. And hey, there are a whole lotta fun "blinkies" to go nuts over. My favorite is "Former fetus for life" or "Would you like to abort my baby?" and then there is the typical "I support my president and my country. Do you?" AAAGGGGG!!!!!!!!!

It's not about her. I don't know her at all. I just saw that damned "got my back thing" and decided to vent here because Mr kt's head will explode is he sees one more "yippee Iraq" icon.

No harm done! :hi:

Never mind the payback we're going to get in the future because of this stupid, unbelievable invasion. There is supporting the troops, like this picture she has: but let's not confuse support with believing that we're somehow being "protected." :eyes: I still can't stand that "We've got your back nonsense. Please. My dad got drafted in Vietnam and he never ONCE felt like he had "our backs." Quite the opposite, really. :eyes:

My biggest concern about sites like these are how vulnurable these women are making themselves to harassment, etc.
They are placing their names, photos, etc. in full public view, as well as their husbands and children in many cases.
Well intentioned I'm sure, but not smart.
Not smart at all.

34. Some women will even scan their ultrasound, which has their name, their
doctor's name and what hospital they go to. I have private messaged these people and let them know that their info is on the Internet. Some fix it, others don't care.

I've also seen pictures of their births- yep, hoo-hoo and all. I've seen all kinds of things there. We're thinking of starting a family in the very near future. Please, if I ever lose my mind like these women- someone stop me!

However, I have learned a lot about having babies. I'm hoping within the next few years, before I get pregnant, science has found a way to make the MAN pregnant. Then I'd be all for a baby right now!

31. OMG that site is a trainwreck
WTF is with all the cloying, glittery, saccharine animated gifs? Is it really necessary to have five lines worth of them?

"PROUD OF MY HUBBY! HAPPY STAY AT HOME MOM TO MACKAYLAH AND DESTINEE! BABY KHYLEE IS DUE ON OCTOBER 17TH!"

*huge animated gif showing the fetal progression of baby Khylee*

Seriously, WTF is with all the schmaltz? Also, WHY do so many people saddle their kids with obnoxious "kreyative" names with bizarre spellings? Their kids will HATE them someday, and they'll deserve every ounce of it. I'd sure as shit hate my parents if they'd named me "Shyann." (Cheyanne is bad enough, did they REALLY need to bastardize an already bad name??)

Ye GODS.
