Poll question: If you had $1000 dollars to donate to a senate candidate of your choice
would you donate to Lamont or another Democrat?

What is more important? Who needs the $$$ the most?

4. I Go With Another Dem.
Lamont should be in pretty good shape. But even if he loses to Lieberman, there is a majority chance that Joe would caucus with the dems anyhow, so the seat is not really the biggest risk.

There are several other candidates running in heated races where we truly need to gain a seat. I'd donate to them.

Didn't demand in the poll that I had to pick an alternate right then and fuckin there, so take a chill pill. LOL
But if I was forced, you have the likes of John Tester, Amy Klobuchar, Robert Menendez, Sherrod Brown, Bob Casey, etc.. Any fuckin one of em. :hi:

5. While Lamont needs to demonstrate broad appeal . . .
Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 08:13 PM by MrModerate
And hence needs donations from a wide variety of voters, he does -- after all -- have lots of his own money. I'd give him a small amount to demonstrate solidarity and send the rest to someone who's struggling. Maybe Cantwell, since I'm a former Washingtonian. Besides, for symbolic reasons, he needs donations from within Connecticut.

8. As much as I like Lamont,
and as much as I'd like to see him hand Lieberman his ass, my $1000 will have to go to the Minnesota candidate, Amy Klobuchar, to be sure the seat now held by a Democrat (Dayton) doesn't fall into the slimy clutches of her opponent, KKKarl Rove's buttboy Mark Kennedy.

15. I don't think Lamont needs the money, and there are other important races.
Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 08:20 PM by Clarkie1
I hope Lamont wins too, but I worry too many resources will be devoted to the CT race.

I like Lamont, but I won't be donating to someone who has plenty of $$$ to fund the race himself competing against a....shall we say, liberal misguided Republican who calls himself a Democrat?

12. I've not given over...
...$200 to any particular candidate, and I wouldn't start just because someone wants to trot out the latest talking point that the Lamont v Lieberman race is wasting money on a race where a "democrat is guaranteed to win", I'd split the $1000 5 ways.

Ned Lamont
Claire McCaskill
DNC
and then the other two checks I'd likely donate to causes or local candidates (MO)

16. Personally, I don't think Lamont needs the money.
He's got plenty of his own. I have nothing against that, but it's hard for me to fork over hard earned cash to someone who is super-rich.

I also think there are other more important races.

This is not meant to be an anti-Lamont thread. I just hope progressives think about how to allocate resources in the most effective way possible, and not just based on emotion.

19. Most of the people...
...running for office are fairly well off. But spending vast amounts of their own money carries with it a trade off, diminishing returns, in their ability to garner votes. A completely self-financed campaign would not exactly encourage confidence in a candidates ability to actually collect contributions and support, that is, after all, why Kerry tried to downplay his borrowing against his own estate to keep his primary campaign alive right before Iowa.

40. It is a race we can win if we work at it. RNC wants to keep the seat
Burns in on a lot of very influential committees.

Tester is the real deal. Back to the basics common sense, hard work, integrity. He is the sort of guy the Democratic Party used to do well with in the heartland.

Burns stress at his ethics problems is taking a toll on his staff too, evidently:

37. C'mon, like that famous New Yorker cartoon
that shows Manhattan detailed in front, and everything else west of the Hudson kinda blurry.

There is life west of the Hudson, west of CT, and there are many good Democrats in other states facing tough battles. Yes, MN is one of them, with a constant parade of Cheney, Rove and Bush campaigning for Kennedy - who even had a small role in Fahrenheit 911.

41. Mike Weaver - he is taking on that two-faced, serial liar Ron Lewis
(and his $50,000 wife, Kayi. (She now spells her name different than when she lived here in good old Kentucky - she has Bambized it.)

Holy Ron is the worst representatives Kentucky has ever had - and that is saying something. (We have had some doozies!) He is so far up Mitch McConnell's ass he hasn't seen sunlight since 1995. He is such a hypocrite that if his mouth is moving he is lying. He preaches against life (anti health care, anti stem cell, anti anti) while taking payola from all the big money boys. Has never delivered one single thing to this state except to pad his and his wife's bottom line. He is the worst kind of representative and I beg each day that some really nasty video comes up showing him diddling goats on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at high noon on the Fourth of July. We desperately need for him to head on back to Stephensburg, Ky. and shut the f*ck up.
