The complete interview with Ahmadinijad is on CSPAN and it becomes more clear that for this interview, so many people could have been chosen who could have done a decent job.

2. I did not see the interview, as I have no Tv
but my friend told me that Ahmadinjad came off as very smart and well spoken. He said Wallace asked him some tough questions and he answered them well. In the mean time< I got Ahmad's blog site from DU yesterday and will check it out on occasion to see things from his perspective. Why does Iran have a smarter leader than we do?

3. I don't like the way Mike is handling it either.
I can't say that I trust Ahmadinejad, but he made a few good points. When he was talking about the National Security Council being always on the side of the Americans and the Brits, I find it hard to disagree with that. After all, they didn't sanction Shrub when he invaded Iraq, did they?

Hmmm, DHS is probably going to come get me now for that comment.

5. mike is talking down to him
again, it's a culture thing and our propaganda which tarnishes everyone, say whatever but Ahmadinejad is not the one who is invading innocent countries and supplying bombs to Israel, we all know who the madman is and it's not Ahmadinejad!!

8. It's hard to conduct a solid interview...
when the subject dodges every controversial question. It's obvious to me that this guy is rarely questioned in this manner. He can't defend his ideology against even the most simple criticisms, he just completely beats around the bush. The non-sensical answer about supporting Hezbolla made my head spin, not to mention him avoiding answering his real feelings about "zionists", AKA the jews.

I think Mike did the best with what he was given, and he wasn't given much IMO.

9. A true journalist is not an advocate
His role is to gain insight for his audience. He knew he wasn't going to get answers to some questions, therefore his role is to probe for deeper understanding of the issues. We are simply used to a lack of quality journalism in the corporate media, thus my assertion that there are many more journalists out of the mainstream who would have done a decent job with this opportunity.

10. I thought he was good
He was brutal, but that's Mike's style, and will always be. He did get some good answers out of him.

Seriously, would you want all interviewers to be like Larry King?

Oh, and Mike isn't a douche, but his son is.

14. Heh. Mike Wallace was disgusting.
Here's what I posted last night in a thread that sank out of sight:

Just finished.President Ahmadinejad wiped the floor with Wallace.

It was quite entertaining, all in all, although Mike Wallace's supercilious posturing and condescension was really cringe inducing. And he was like a robot spewing out conventional wisdom and neocon talking points nonstop.

Wallace was absolutely pre-programmed, he was utterly incapable of actually *listening* to anything Ahmadinejad had to say, much less actually cogitate and *respond* to it. What irritated me the most was his Western Civilization Superiority schtick -- humoring the lesser being, but never for a moment deigning to consider that this "barbarian" might just be as smart or smarter than him. (and I vote, smarter) Anyway, I though it was disgusting.

Mike Wallace is a farce, a caricature of a persona. He's less real than even Steven Colbert, because we're expected to take him seriously.

A skillful interviewer would have engaged and debated, not just shot out one pre-scripted talking point after another. Ahmadinejad came off to me as someone with a nimble intellect and a truly reality-based worldview.

There's no reason on earth that a sane American leader couldn't normalize relations with Iran -- to every one in the world's benefit. Unfortunately, we have no sane people in power here. Only madmen who want to bomb the whole world into a design of their making.

If our country goes to war in Iran, we are absolutely lost. We will have crossed fully over to the dark side and there will be no redemption for any of us.

17. Oh man! You took the words right out of my mouth.
Why oh why didn't they have Christianne Amanpour, an Iranian, do this interview? Ahmadinijad made an ass out of Wallace, who allowed his biases to color his questions and when an opportunity opened up for him to actually ask Ahmadinijad for clarification on some statements that he made, he totally passed them by.

I got the impression that Ahmadinijad was listening to Wallace, but Wallace wasn't listening to Ahmadinijad.
