Israeli Vice-Premier Shimon Peres left Monday for the US in an effort to raise funds towards rehabilitation of the Galilee. Peres hopes to raise USD 100m in four days.

Peres will visit New York, Washington, Atlanta and other cities. (Ronny Sofer)

4. I highly doubt that
Although certain "charitable contributions" are tax deductible; but I don't think that counts towards foreign governments or organizations outside the U.S. Israel however is an exception.

"Vice Premier Shimon Peres is set to leave for the US Monday evening to head the Campaign of the United Jewish Communities in six major cities in North America with the goal of raising hundreds of millions of dollars for residents of the Galilee and northern Israel.

Peres will be the head speaker of the Israel Emergency Campaign of the UJC.

The UJC said in a statement that “Peres, an esteemed and important public figure in the eyes of North American Jewry, is considered the greatest and most lucrative fundraiser for the State of Israel.”

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert launched the Israel Emergency Campaign last Monday. The goal of the Campaign is to raise hundreds of millions of dollars.

“Aid was already given to Israel during the war, and aid it will continue to be used for rebuilding after the war is over,” the UJC said."

~ Stated Purpose: "to raise funds for the relief and rehabilitation of Jews and other peoples in Europe, Asia, Africa, and other foreign countries and for the settlement and welfare of Jews in Israel, and to respond to the humanitarian needs caused by the ongoing terrorism attacks in Israel."


~ UJC is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It is eligible to receive contributions deductible as charitable donations for federal income tax purposes.
