How soon before we all have to travel buck naked?
I just read something from a QUANTAS spokesperson who said it was impossible to remove all potential weapons from a plane or the secure area of an airport. Strangely I've been thinking this for years.

Shoelaces, bra straps, a rubber glove, a snorkle, marbles, sticky tape, an aerosol asthma puffer. Just in that little lot I can find at least five different projectile shooters and a garotte. And except for the snorkle (which could almost certainly be substituted for from onboard resources) every one of those items would either pass unremarked or not be noticed at all in a person's pockets right now, this minute.

I believe that, the only thing that has kept us even relatively safe over the past few years, is the simple fact that totally random violence would not serve the terrorists cause greatly. An attack needs to be seen as well planned and executed against a relatively hard target if they are to be seen as something more than mindless thugs.

If pure carnage was the sole goal, recruits would be trained in a handful of techniques and sent out to randomly attack targets of their choice at times of their choice.

1. Even naked wouldn't do it
I heard one UK official pushing for more profiling and survaillance. Perhaps that is where this is headed.

4. I've been thinking the only way to make us totally safe on a plane
from terrorists is that every passenger would have to strip naked in front of TSA personnel, endure a cavity search, shower, be issued pocketless clothes and flipflops and then be allowed to board the plane never leaving the secure area with no carry ons. The checked luggage would have to be flown on a 2nd passengerless plane to destination.

But you know that ain't going to happen, so while I want security at the airport I think this latest scare is mostly BS and is not keeping us safe, just keeping us sheep.

5. with cavity searches!
Inmates (both sexes) have been known to hide plenty you know where. Even in rolls of fat.

There's the reason I don't miss being a correctional officer any more.

9. depends on how long the republicans are in power
personally I think it is all in their heads or campaign tactics

ps. I gave up flying years ago when they cut down on air into the plane's cabin to increase efficiency. I like to be able to breathe while I fly.
