The United States' military actions in Iraq are "an open-ended course with no end in sight," and America cannot fully bring peace to the nation there under its current policy, a Pennsylvania congressman told a group of Middle Tennessee Democrats on Saturday night.
"I said a year ago we couldn't win this militarily, and they (Republicans) attacked me," Congressman John Murtha said.
Murtha, 74, a west Pennsylvania Democrat, was the keynote speaker at the Davidson County Democratic Party's second annual Gore Family Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday night.
Because of America's continued presence in Iraq, he has said, the American military is overcommitted and stretched thin, and its continued presence there is hurting the nation's international credibility.

He spoke to hundreds of area Democrats, including former Vice President Al Gore, who attended the fundraiser. The event is named in honor of Gore's family.
