CNN reported about the female lawyer hit with rubber bullets
Edited on Sun Aug-13-06 10:50 PM by cat_girl25
I posted about this earlier today in this thread which is now locked because of a disrupter:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?
az=view_all&address=364x1902246#1903019

They showed video footage when she was asking the cops if they shot at her leg and then in the face. They also played the video of the cops laughing about it. The woman was interviewed and is thinking about sueing the police department.

Here are the videos for you to view (posted by Nomad559)

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/15228898.htm

A police training video showed high-ranking Broward deputies laughing about shooting rubber bullets at a Coral Gables attorney at the free-trade summit in Miami.

1. I saw the videos and am appalled.
I hate it when a group of police act like this. Mob mentality, bah. Hope she sues them.

Those videos are damning.

6. No, it's like a female doctor.
There's nothing offensive about the word female.

13. It was a description, to let us know more of whom she was.
That is all. Sometimes descriptions are just descriptions and not any "ism".

17. good catch, and I have to agree with you
It's not a big deal, as you point out, but it's interesting to note we usually see nothing strange about saying a "female lawyer," but how often does one see the term "male lawyer" used?

39. It's relevant. Cops shooting rubber bullets at women is even worse,
IMO, than if they'd shot them at men. But I'm kind of a dinosaur about such things.

8. Yes. I emphasize she was female because she had a skirt on.
Later in the video, she raised her skirt a little to show where the bullet hit her leg.

31. In 1979, I recall hitching a ride with an hispanic man, who told me some
horror stories about how the police treated people of color. I was young, and never tangled with the police. Sagely, he added: There are good policemen, and bad policemen, and policemen who cannot even be called men.

I think the very bad policemen have always been with us, I just think the current administration is actively recruiting and training them to be worse.

32. Mardi Gras 1979
Was the best Mardi Gras EVER because the police were on strike. Instead, we had national guard who really did nothing but watch the festivities. There was very little violence that year, if any.

I grew up with guys who are now NOPD. They are good men.

During this administration, though, they are recruiting the worst of the worst. Imagine what it will be like when pissed off Iraq War vets return and join police depts... :(

15. Those sickening freaks aren't police...
...officers. Police officers, many of whom are decent and professional, understand
that their job is "to protect and to serve."

Those infantile thugs don't deserve to be on a police force. They're trashy, unprofessional
ding dongs who don't deserve to wear the uniform.

They are all a complete disgrace--to themselves, their families and their communities.

Thank God there's video of these neanderthals--acting like third-class wussies.

those cops should be lined up and shot with rubber bullets. Disgusting. I see it in my friends who got into the criminal justice field. They are all gung ho about getting to do things like that. It sickens me.

Would you like to defend the city with all the nifty video floating around of the her being no threat and
the cops yukking it up the next day.

Not those big honkin' rubber slugs. These look like 00 buckshot. A big slug like they used in Ireland, or still use in Israel.... she'd be dead.

My point is that she's gonna make 'em PAY. Damn near any jury is gonna see this as police brutality.

24. it would certainly qualify as "excessive force" since she posed no threat.
Which, should bring them up on internal affairs investigation, and possibly losing their jobs.

neither of which is likely to happen, I might point out.

we are no longer a nation of laws, but a nation of thugs in power that act with impunity against the very citizens who employ them.

25. OMG! I hope she SUES THEIR ASSES OFF!!
Please, please, please, let her sue.
And those cops in the tent laughing at her? What's the deal with that? And they wonder why they don't get more "respect for the badge"??!! What a bunch of Neanderthal creeps.

Oh and the fact she was wearing a suit....it doesn't make her any less deserving of being shot than it would if she were wearing a tee shirt and jeans. This is just unconscionable. If I were in that town I would be looking to replace the bulk of the police force. They are unfit to serve the public and should be deeply ashamed of their behavior.

from Die Hard. You know, the ones who were all Gung Ho about killing the terrorists but ended up getting blown up in the helicopter when the top floor of Nakatomi Plaza explodes.

And then when they called the protestors (aka citizens they are supposed to serve and protect) cockroaches, all I could think of was that voice on the radio from "Hotel Rwanda".

Maybe I watch too many movies. Hmm, maybe those cops do too...

Under all the ballistic clothing and weaponry, these SWAT types are just a bunch of lost little boys in search of an identity. No wonder most of them wind up divorced and destitute.
