CNN had a piece about how we are now going to have our vital liquids confiscated before boarding a plane. And there was Chertoff, poster boy for the Katrina debacle, up there on the screen. I couldn't help thinking about how close to being on America's last nerve these people are.
America is already laughing at the old idiotic delays at the airport while a bunch of underpaid flunkies run their wands over grandma and little kids. Everyone knows or should know that the dangers of liquids and other things have always been there. Now the Bushies want us to thank them for this latest tangible proof of their failure.
DU has been all over it. I've seen some great points made here.
Do you mean to tell us that the Bushies have been letting these dangerous liquids on airplanes for five years after 9/11? What were they thinking? If this plot was dangerous enough to crow about like they have, why didn't Bush's crew of highly paid geniuses think of it before? Do we only do stupid things like wars preemptively? What about thinking about security problems before the plotters think of them? Where are our genius protectors? Looks like the UK.
Did the Iraq War help us capture these plotters? What specific part of the Iraq War resulted in the capture of these bad guys?
America is not going to like new travel restrictions on the face of it. We were supposed to be getting somewhere by "cleaning up the Middle East with the power of pride." But now everything just seems to be getting worse and worse. Did we fight a $300 billion dollar, 2,600-life war to be told we now have to watch what liquids we take on planes? Sad to say, but little indignities like that affect many Americans more than thousands of painful deaths and hundreds of billions of dollars embezzled from our children as deficits.
The GOP is sitting on a powderkeg on this one.
