Perhaps Americans Have Moved On? "Stone's 9/11 film 3rd at box office "
I believe bush's "I am tuff on Terra" speeches this week will fall on deaf ears.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Most moviegoers opted for comedy and dance after a week dominated by news of thwarted terror plots and Middle East bloodshed but "World Trade Center," Oliver Stone's new film about the September 11 attacks, managed a No. 3 finish at the box office.

Arriving in theaters just ahead of the fifth anniversary of the deadliest attacks ever on U.S. soil, Hollywood's first big-budget film about the 9/11 calamity in New York has grossed $26.8 million since opening last Wednesday, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday.

The better-than-expected tally included $19 million in weekend tickets sales alone, landing "World Trade Center" in third place at the North American box office for the Friday-through-Sunday period.

Will Ferrell's race car comedy "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," from Sony Pictures Entertainment, returned to the top of the box office with $23 million in its second weekend, raising its cumulative total to $91.2 million. The Walt Disney Co.'s new dance film "Step Up" opened at No. 2 with ticket sales of $21.1 million.

1. Maybe it is still too soon
I know I don't want to see it.

I'd rather laugh and be entertained, than cry. But that is just me.

2. The Boston Phoenix called it basically a GOP propaganda wet dream...
and noted that the firm in charge of maketing, Creative Response Concepts, also had the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" as clients.

4. I Saw An Incionvenient Truth Last Night With My Mom, .. . Question:
I am uninformed on the 9-11 movie by Stone. I don't intend to see it either- because I heard/read somewhere (CNN I think) that they (producers) went with "courage" and not "conspiracy." I immediately thought it sounds like a movie * ass lickers would love. I am confused about Oliver Stone - I thought he detested bu$h co.?

5. The movie itself seemed rather apolitical
It's about the trials of two people who survived in the rubble before being rescued. There was no inherent political message in people trying to survive.

7. I have already written my thoughts about this movie
in another thread and wont rerun them here, however, I have something to add.
If all he wanted to do was produce a heroic film about men surviving difficult odds, he could have chosen from thousands of other projects. He chose the Twin Towers for one reason: MONEY! I hope it backfires on him.

9. I saw WTC - found it fairly apolitical but somewhat boring
After the two characters are trapped in the rubble it is esentially the guys trapped in a mine or cave-in and their families at home story. It drags IMHO.

I couldn't imagine living through what these two guys did - but that doesn't make the story a good movie. I wasn't all that impressed with the movie.

11. HELLOOOO!!!.. We all SAW it happen ...LIVE before our very eyes
and then the media "fed" it to us nonstop for YEARS.. It's too soon for this movie.. When they re-release it 10 years from now it will be useful..but not now..
