He's basically saying we're in terrible shape and it's going to get worse. And, by the way, there's nothing we can do about it, but don't forget to buy my book.

5. We're now in the "Endarkenment". The opposite of the "Enlightenment"

8. It was utterly fascinating, and seen as longue duree history, makes a

great argument for us leaving the Illustration for something else: a stagment phase if one will, but the so-called "Dark Ages" weren't all that dark, they have just left few surviving records. Actually a slave-based economy was replaced by one of freeholders and a great deal of what we know as the Common Law was based on Germanic tribal custom.
The emphasis on non-Greco-Roman-Arabic-Hindu learning, and small emphasis on learning itself is what baffles one about the Early Medieval times.
