21. no, that wasn't the reason at all...
...we promised them all sorts of aid packages and financial support which we never paid (like the rent on the air bases)...it's just a falling out among theives and liars, nothing more. The ruling (reorganized and renamed CP) faction of this country is, if anything, even worse than the US...which made them perfect partners for the BushCo. cabal...until they stiffed them...see Jason Leopold's (?) "What Cheney did on his summer vacation".

Officially, I think England and Iraq are the only countries that still like us. But if we have to take in to consideration the opinions of the people of those countries, the count is decreased by two.

20. I don't wanna visit any that still have respect for US foreign policy
Whatever countries like how the Bush Admin. is running things, well, I just have no respect for THEM!

So let me know who these fools are, so I can cross them off my "list of places to visit before I die."

I'm sure the freepers would believe these statements to be completely unpatriotic. Au contraire, freepers. A true patriot calls his/her government on their blunders.

And, attention, other countries: DO NOT JUDGE US ALL BY OUR GOVERNMENT OR OUR CHRISTOFASCISTS!!!!!!!!!!

25. Ok....there are about 190 countries total.
How many of those actually like the US? Probably only 1 or 2..

Canada = current leadership resembles the GOP, but the people themselves don't like the US
Australia = probably the same here.

Philippines = tolerates us, only because they are dependent on foreign aid.

-- - - - - - - - -

The vast majority, around 180 countries = distrusts the US. Knows that we're out pimping, searching around for a vein to tap.

- - - - -- - -- --

around 8 or 10 countries actively hate us.

38. UK, Ireland, Israel, Poland, Canada, Germany, the majority of the Caribean
Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, most EU countries. I could go on, but there are more countries that like the US than those that don't. Certainly relations with China, North Korea, most Latin American countries, the majority of countries where Islam is the main religion, and Belarus have shaky relations with us, but even if we didn't have asshat, those countries would still be wary of us.

I was recently in Central Europe and I didn't see all that much anti-Americanism. I'd be interested in your insight on this matter.

40. I'm not German
But I study international relations. Germans usually favor Americans if not America. First of all, there are historic ties between the country in the fact that many Germans came to America. For example, my mom found out how to contact our distant cousins from Germany. Our two families had never met, but once they received a letter from my mom saying she was coming to Germany, they not only looked forward to visiting, they offered to host her. This was awhile ago (about 15 years) but that just shows you that at least my extended German family still considers German-Americans to be German.

In addition, Germany (at least Western Germany) still has strong ties to America thanks to the Cold War. Obviously there is an entire generation who doesn't know anything about that, but many older Germans still has that affection. In addition, many Eastern Germans have better lives under Democracy/capitalism than they did under communism, so that plays a part too.

In terms of electoral politics, just look at the recent election where the Prime Minister who wasn't in favor of the Iraq War (Schroeder) was ousted by a conservative female (Merkel) Now Merkel doesn't support the Iraq War herself (but is more in favor of counterterrorism, really who isn't?). However, Schroeder and his party actually took a fierce turn to the left and bashed the hell out of capitalism, Bush and America and they ended up losing.

It was a close race and Schroeder almost won, but it just goes to show you that anti-Americanism isn't as rampant as most people here on DU would like to think. Any mass hatred towards Americans generally takes the form of anti feelings towards Bush, not Americans. When you think about it, it would be like me now hating Canada because Harper is in power when I would have really loved Canada just two months ago. I find that most people anywhere are able to separate the difference between the government in power and the people and the history that exists there.

46. Most EU countries like the American people but hate Bush
My sister is a frequent business traveler to Europe. She said that most Europeans don't hate Americans, but they despise and fear Bush. I guess that you didn't see the anti-war protests in Europe? Most of them looked more like anti-Bush protests.

Yes I did see those protests and I was saying more along your lines of EU countries liking Americans.

It's the same thing here, we'll have anti-Bush protests but the people in them don't hate fellow Americans.

this summer, everyone treated me well, even after learning that I was American. Seems that a lot of Athenians, Santorinians, and Cretians have relatives in the US. And Mexico seemed friendly when I was there earlier this year. Everywhere I went, people seemed happy to deal with this gringa.

47. A seperation should be made between countries and ther governments
A few countries' governments may still "like" the US but that is because we provide them with arms, or some type of trade agreement. But I don't foreign relations is just a matter of how our government deals with other governments. Obviously this administration has not only tried to marginalize the dissenting opinion here in the US but also elsewhere in the world. People get marginalized to the point where they feel like they have no recourse through normal or governmental means they sometimes may do the craziest thing - like say join a group that plans on bombing airplanes heading to the US from the UK.
