A hypothetical question
A wizard comes along and says to you he can give us a Democratic victory guaranteed but you must give up one of these issues. You must give it up not just give up talking about it. IOW it is a lost issue forever which one do you give up?
1. A womans right to choose
2. Gay Marriage
3. Religious material banned from government facilities
4. this may be a part of three; Prayer in school
5. Gays in the military
6. Federal wiretapping without warrant
7. No Knock policy, government's right to enter your home without warrant
8. Tax cuts
9. Fairness Doctrine
10. Drilling in ANWR

Have to give one up forever, can you do it? Can you choose one?

1. A wizard comes along and says to you he can give you eternal happiness.
but you must get one of these things cut off:

1. your nose
2. your ears
3. your arm
4. your penis or breasts
5. your legs
6. the skin on your back
...

You get the idea

2. 10. ANWR
A gut-wrenching loss but it's the most containable, unlike the others which affect everyone.

However, my first impulse would be to punch the wizard's lights out.

4. Yes, ANWR, because that leaves the opportunity to fight other drilling
and mining issues.

We have yet to go after our oil sands, and I fear that will be a bigger mess across the west than ANWR.

3. Are we going to start trading off basic beliefs for someone's
perception of political advantage? Why?

5. let's make it vaguely more realistic to help the purists along:
the democrats win the white house and both houses of congress, but the banana republicans have enough of the senate to filibuster EVERYTHING.

the senate minority leader offers to compromise by not filibustering for four years in exchange for one of the items in your list.

do you compromise, and if so, which one do you give up?

6. Being a civil libertarian, I don't believe in the fairness doctrine.
So that's a pretty easy choice.

8. And in 2 years the wizard comes back
and says victory guaranteed but yu must give up one more and 2 years later it is still give up one more. There can be no winning if you have to give up core beliefs

9. Try The Reverse
A wizard comes along and says Republican rule will continue for the next 30 years. But, you can have one of those issues. The Republicans won't be able to touch it or even debate it. The Supreme Court won't be able to get rid of it. Which do you decide to KEEP (or ADD)

1. Reproductive Freedom
2. Gay Marriage
3. Religious material banned from government facilities
4. This may be a part of three; Prayer in school
5. Gays in the military
6. Federal wiretapping without warrant
7. No Knock policy, government's right to enter your home without warrant
8. Tax cuts
9. Fairness Doctrine
10. Drilling in ANWR

You are trying to determine what is least important to Democrats, I would like to know what is MOST important.

10. This is a Democracy, kick the wizard out
The people decide. You say, "Yeah, but Diebold has the election rigged." I reply, "That's the people's choice."
