Poll question: Where else should Carry-on liquids be banned?
Edited on Sun Aug-13-06 12:17 AM by Clarkie1
Now, I want to say from the outset that I think the terrorist threat this week was real, and it was not the doing of Rove, as some here have ridiculously suggested. I think it is very dangerous for people...specifically dangerous for Democrats and their political aspirations, to immediately discount any foiled terrorist plot as some sort of Republican conspiracy. Saying things like that doesn't help build our case to the American people that we are better to deal with national security than the Republicans.

Having said all that, an obvious question occurred to me today, which is food for thought. Thus, the poll...

Edit: I also don't think we should give into fear-mongering, and I don't want it to be inferred that I think liquids should necessarily be banned here, there, or everywhere; I'm just trying to get a sense of what freedoms and conveniences people would be willing to give up for the extra security, if any.

1. Blah - they could train the electronic sniffers for bomb materials
Oh... that's right. they don't have electronic sniffers, it's too damn expensive and would cost the airlines/airports or government money (that money is being spent on Iraq).

Nevermind...

6. If they hand out water for free, then definitely ban.
Or do testing to ensure nothing boom-boom-friendly is being brought aboard. (of course, people won't want to wait...)

I'm just trying to get a sense of what freedoms and conveniences people would be willing to give up for the extra security

:wtf:

None.....we're not giving up N-O-T-H-I-N-G more. Giving up our civil rights has brought the American people NOTHING, except the "opportunity" to GIVE UP MORE of our civil rights and freedoms.

Shoo....go away. What a creepy question.

on edit adding:

'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: 'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!'

Yet you don't know/understand/want to know a single word I've said.

on edit: self-deleting quite a lot and "biting my tongue" on the things that I've never written but would love to, b/c it's true (at least in my experience).

10. Liquids are seriously scary, which is why the bans are temporary,....

as were the M-16 toting NG dudes positioned at the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge. I didn't realize M-16s had anti-aircraft capability.

They are now stationed at the airports waiting for a convoy of speeding cargo trucks or something. This is ridiculous.
