Questions Raised About Airport Staffing
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 08:35 PM by mcscajun
There's a built-in limit on screeners: 45,000 to cover 450 airports. National Guard troops are assisting (isn't that a pretty picture?) and the screeners have been put on mandatory six-day work weeks. Yeah, that'll increase productivity and alertness, won't it?

The ban on liquids will be in place indefinitely, and now, this evening, there are a couple of new items added to the banned list that should make flying, oh, just Peachy.

Questions Raised About Airport Staffing

(snip)

Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., has tried to get the cap of 45,000 screeners lifted.

On July 12, the Senate approved his amendment to lift the cap as part of the Homeland Security spending bill for 2007. The House kept the limit in its version of the bill, and the two versions must be reconciled.

(snip)

On Saturday, the TSA added mascara, but not lipstick, to the list of banned items. Gel shoe inserts are not allowed, but shoes with gel embedded in the heel are.

Also banned: Baby teethers with gel or liquid inside, children's toys with gel inside and gel candles.

Get ready for more screaming babies on those non-stop flights. Dr. Scholl's stock is gonna take a hit, too.

2. I just got home
from traveling. I flew out of El Paso Texas, through Houston to Birmingham, AL. And let me tell you, I feel SO MUCH SAFER...:sarcasm: You have to feel safer now that babies can't take teething rings and elderly woman can't carry on their makeup cases. The elderly woman in front of me had to throw out her liquid makeup. And drink up fast, no beverages allowed on the plane either.

I got pulled out in Houston for a purse and laptop check. They scrutinized my chapstick, but let me on the plane with it.

I spent 5 days horseback riding in the New Mexico mountains, I am sunburned and tired. I had to patience for any of it today. They would have had to take the chapstick out of my cold, dead hands!

It is absolutely ridiculous, and the American sheople will fall for it again. I am sure the BushCo numbers will take a sizeable upward bounce this coming week.

3. I had to give up my chapstick in NY today, and take off my flip-flops.
Yeah, those flippers sure are dangerous. This is new to me since last Thursday. Who will say, "ENOUGH?"

7. Yes, you can check it
You just can't carry it on. The good news was that I didn't have to wait as 100 business people that carry EVERYTHING on, stow their tremendously over stuffed bags in the over head bins. Even the flight attendents mentioned to several of us that they liked the idea that all the carry on was being checked. Makes boarding faster.

10. Not as of today
One in my group bought a cheap suitcase so she could be under weight. She was over on the trip out last week, and we carried it on. That was not an option today.

13. Thanks, Debau!
I'm flying Tuesday and I'm NOT looking forward to this BS mess.
I'm only checking in one suit case this time and rest of my stuff, I mail out last week.

9. I knew this was an election year stunt,
I just was not putting it together with this past week's election results! It is all falling into place now.

I was in the South New Mexico mountains and no access to news until Thursday night. So I am still catching up on some of this. I am beginning to see the benefits of being a hermit in the mountains!!!
