Bad News for "World Trade Center"? (off 25%) + S.O.A.P. news
http://news.yahoo.com/s/eo/20060812/en_movies_eo/19747

Business for Oliver Stone's World Trade Center was off nearly 25 percent Thursday from its Wednesday opening.

But box-office analysts said the drop was normal--and not a sign that news of the alleged London terror plot had put a hurt into the movie about the 9-11 terror attacks.

"This is not escapist entertainment" Paul Dergarabedian of the box-office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations said Friday. "It's not like people were going to go this to have a grand-old time at the movies."

Another new movie that looks as if its box-office run will be unaffected by the terror-front news is Snakes on a Plane.

"We're releasing as planned," New Line Cinema said Friday.

1. Don't give in to AQ, New Line
If SOAP is postponed, the terrorists win.

2. Neither United 93 nor World Trade Center spark any interest for me
I remember the original - and it wasn't all that "entertaining", why would I want to see the remake?

:wtf:

3. Who said...
"United 93" was the most abject example of product placement he'd ever seen? That line cracked me up. I'm a sick bastard, I know.

4. Actually Bravo did a TV movie about 93 first
it was pretty good too. It was effective let me say that.

6. I don't see WTC as propaganda

it is a human drama about two guys who were trapped in the rubble and then saved. You sit and aguish with their families and I would guess you see what they go through IN the rubble.

I still don't know if I want to see it. I know I am not seeing it in a theatre ($$)

8. Oliver Stone directed
I would suspect that that is why you haven't seen a lot of press over this movie-he did a voice over or something for a conspiracy type movie not to long ago.

I think the movie is about Nicholas Cage's character and a bunch of trainee port authority cops or trainee cops. They didn't have to go in but they did.

I really don't know if I want to see this movie yet. Apparently not many people wanted to see Flight 93.

9. Well, I still won't see either one.
And Nicholas Cage is a very good actor IMO

You see, All I have to do is look out my window and there's the
blank hole in the sky where the towers once stood.
You can't miss it from any angle in my apartment.

I know we're all still reeling mad,
but this is enough daily reminder for me.

11. I've never seen so much discussion (read: free publicity) for a film that
rakes in a mere four mil on opening day. Certainly, the fact that the "five year mark" is coming up is helping to sell the movie. But that stinks a bit of using the blood of the dead to make money.

That comic was a hoot, if you follow the link: http://www.wondermark.com/d/220.html

13. stone's one of them....
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 03:38 PM by pretzel4gore
his jfk movie blamed the boogeyman when the real culprits (dulles, mccoy, ellsworth bunker, the hunt family, oldbush family and a plague of locusts rightwingers) were all around. Reading today that the dead'n'gone new york times writer tad szulc was a cia agent who acted as fidel castro's friend (castro would drop in to visit szulc and his wifey) and published a book in '86 (fidel: a critical portrait) and kept up the fiction he was a kennedy liberal to the very end. oliver stone is probably a time waster too - his fukkin movies can go to hell
(i forgot tom mention cia agent clare sterling, whose anti communist rants were bought/paid for, part of his 925.....the prick! undoubtedly, seymore hersh is a cia agent too)
believe it, these guys are uppity class warriors, against the working/middle classes whom they must still pander to to be successful.
