Watch Acetone/Peroxide Blow Up.Read GAO Re: Liquid Airline Threat

Hey, this isn't one of my wordy threads. There are two activities that you can do here. You can

1. Watch people with videos at YouTube blow up mixtures of acetone/peroxide well in advance of the plot which the British government uncovered, meaning that everyone has known about this threat for a long, long time:

2. Read a GAO Report from 1996 in which they talk about the need for airlines to screen for liquids and talk about how the FAA is working on technology to allow them to screen for liquids

We all saw the video from Countdown last week about how the GAO was able to smuggle the ingedients for a bomb onto a plane in MARCH of this year (meaning that our Heckofajob Homeland Security people had as much of a heads up as the Homeland Propaganda people). If anyone can find a link, please post it here, so that we will have more fun things to do.

Acetone == nail polish remover.

Peroxide == Probably much more difficult to get. I do not think they mean the 3% solutions at the drug store. Or, do they?

it is, of course, fairly unstable, I think. but it is both obtainable (look, if you're willing to blow up an airplane, you can probably get your hands on common chemicals from somewhere) and manufacturable.

I don't have a bottle on hand to see what the strength of it is.. but you can buy it off the shelf at any beauty supply store.

http://www.totse.com/en/bad_ideas/ka_fucking_boom/162660.html is a recipe for acetone peroxide that You Can Make At Home using fairly common household chemicals--3-percent hydrogen peroxide, the kind of acetone they sell at hardware stores (there are other things in nail polish remover, like nail conditioners and gelatin; nail conditioners have no place in explosives), and an acid catalyst.

And once again, we have a problem: this isn't something you can make on an airplane. It takes equipment you wouldn't carry onto the plane, like a refrigerator, and it takes two days to react out.

I was in the aisle with hair color on one side and nail stuff on the other and there in my face was 100% acetone.

Otherwise, all the pundits, journalists, and idiotorialists would have to retract their scaring statements.
After all, mere untrained, non-muslim, non-terrorists could NEVER open up a chemistry book, could they?
