Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Bush's fitness

Regarding President Bush's physical exam ("Bush Passes Annual Physical, Adds Five Pounds," Aug. 2), I was so happy to read that President Bush passed his annual physical with flying colors. One needs to be fit as a fiddle in order to play one as his country burns around him.

Mr. Bush had nine specialists declare him fit -- nine specialists! That had to be expensive. The co-pay alone is probably more than the average minimum wage earner's yearly take-home pay. Maybe he'll have to sell some of his oil stocks. Perhaps he got this special treatment for free. But certainly the leader of the "free" world wouldn't accept such a gratuity while making cuts in Medicare and Medicaid and allowing even more of his "fellow Americans" to go under- or uninsured.

I was surprised to read that he has so much time to spend on mountain biking and weightlifting. Maybe that's when he gets all his great ideas -- like invading the wrong country; stirring up hornets nests in Iran and North Korea; tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy; record deficit spending; and cutbacks in health care, education and other programs that benefit Americans who are, unfortunately, not his fellows.

Doctors report that Mr. Bush has shrunk a quarter of an inch. I was surprised, not that he's getting shorter, but that he was ever 6 feet tall. He never seemed to me to have much stature.

I was not surprised to read that his eyesight is getting worse. I never suspected him of having great vision. I wonder if an eye exam for Mr. Bush requires a colonoscopy.

7. That letter is short, sweet, accurate, and to the point. You'd NEVER see
it published here by the right-wing rag that tries to pass as a NEWSpaper here.

19. Funny story - when I was in my 20s dating I thought I was still growing.
Because a couple of my dates told me they were 5'8" and I could see I was taller than them. I didn't actually care what their height was, but I thought geez I must be 5'9", 5'10"! Finally I measured myself and I was still 5'7", same as when I left my teens.

My point: I bet he's never been 5'11" either.

20. That's what is known as freedom of the press
and the guts to exercise publishing raw truth.

I hope they know how much it's appreciated.
