In times like these I crave
Art & Music. These days, finding peace in minutia is the way I find
peace in my soul...love my family, love my country, and there are very
few moments that my mind doesn't wander to a family somewhere in the
world suffering incredible needless loss. So I cry more than usual.
I worry for the children..Meet me, talk to me, I'll smile, we'll have a
nice chat, but inside I'm always worried about the children.

Thank goodness for art and music in times like these.

I'm hoping commonsense will win the day too.

5. Jazz makes me happy
Blue Note records from the early 60's are a good salve for the shit going down now, for sure.
Sometimes I put on some Lee Morgan, get a small burger and fries, and just sort of wish for older
and simpler times. Or at least times when I was simpler. I remember thinking that Sears was the
greatest place the world because they sold warm cashews. Wonder why I flew off on that tangent.

6. I hear ya. You know what I also miss,
I miss the USA. I miss the good guys..the country that fought
for it's own independence, wrote it's Constitution by the people
for the people. You're like a lost brother right now. Come home.

7. Damn, you brought back some great memories.....
one of the highlights (we were dirt poor) was getting a bag of the Crunchy Nougat thingies that Sears sold. And they were ALWAYS hot! It only happened about twice a year. :)

8. I guess if world peace never comes,
inner peace will have to do...:)
funny how the simple things are always the best things.
I remember a bag of .10 cent candy was A LOT of candy,
fudgicles, bare-feet, and tobogganing on big hills.
Crap, it was a WONDERFUL LIFE!!

9. Nice to be comforted by memories.
I'm 6'2" and 250 pounds, but I still feel nice when I remember my Dad hugging me good bye, him smelling like Old Spice, me being about 6.

Man, those were good and quiet times.

11. And I thought a place like Luby's
was the fanciest restaurant there was. We could go on forever...mainly I just get tired of hearing about anger and fear.

12. you said it, anger and fear,
are an absolute total waste of energy. Can you imagine what this world
is capable of achieving with the true goodness and brain power that
actually DOES exist on this planet. The brightest and the best need
to be the leaders of this complicated world. Here's to hoping :) :toast:

13. More Peace..Less Censorship
Even though tv restricted much of went went down it was a time when art could be art. You disliked war and indicated such in a riot of reds and yellows in a masterpiece that hung in a local art show. No one screamed that you were a traitor. They may have disliked it but they never thought you were part of a plot to destroy the government. Radio also had its restrictions but it was more about certain words and most did not get into not playing a song because of your politics. In the sixties you could wear a peace shirt and not get kicked out of a place or banned from shopping malls. Oh for the freedom we had, which we took for granted and never thought in our wildest dreams that it would some day end--no more then we thought jobs would leave this country by the shipload and the companies and gov't would not only NOT stop it but welcome the news for higher profits to line their already sleazy pockets. We sure could use that penny candy counter again. I'll have a half pound of chocolate clusters, please!

14. My teen years were the 70's..and I remember one profound
feeling back then..are you ready for this...I felt free.
Yes free. Never in my wildest imagination could I guess
times like these coming. I hope it doesn't last. Actually,
it never does, change is the constant.

But I do specifically remember feeling free...silly things...
I'd bike all day long with my friends, parents didn't worry
about that (as I do now with my kids)...TV shows like
All in the Family, Happy Days, Welcome Back Kotter, MASH (my fave),
left me with a good feeling about the potential of the world at that time.
I remember long hair, rock music and 8 track cassette tapes :), lol.
In the 60's my favorite song ..."Downtown".
