Lamont's getting Swiftboated: CNN-"Is Ned Lamont the Al Qaeda candidate?"
Ned Lamont's getting Swiftboated
"Is Ned Lamont the Al Qaeda candidate?"

This was the question that CNN's Chuck Roberts posed this afternoon to Hotline's John Mercurio.

Today on CNN Headline News, anchor Chuck Roberts discussed the impact of the foiled British terror plot with Hotline senior editor John Mercurio. Roberts asked Mercurio, “How does this factor into the Lieberman/Lamont contest? And might some argue, as some have, that Lamont is the al Qaeda candidate?”

Think Progress has the video:

3. it makes so much more sense
to say that anyone who doesn't insist on capturing Osama is the al Qaeda candidate, if they are behind the recent airline terror threat.

Where, oh where, is the sharp, brilliant response to this bullshit?

85. I think it means he
studied at goebble's knee for real.

"Goebble's Principles of Propaganda

Goebble's was the head of the Propaganda Bureau of Hitler who incorporated various techniques effectively. According to him:-

a. A propagandist must have access to intelligence concerning events and public opinion.
b. Propaganda must be planned and executed by only one authority.
c. Propaganda must effect the enemy's policy and action.
d. Factors that determine whether enemy propaganda should be ignored or refuted.
e. Black (without an authentic source) rather than white propaganda must be employed when the latter is less credible or produces undesirable effects.
f. Propaganda must be carefully timed.
g. Counter Propaganda measures be also taken to encounter the enemy.
h. Propaganda to the home front must diminish the impact of frustration.
i. Propaganda must facilitate the displacement of aggression (in suspicion, distrust and hatred)."

Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 06:30 PM by MrCoffee
EVERY TIME we see this, we MUST respond. Do not let them get away with it. The only contact info I could find for Chuck Roberts (and it was a quick and dirty search) was a generic feedback form. http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form1.html?33

Something along the lines of "It is the most irresponsible form of journalism to compare a nominee for the United States Senate with an outlaw terrorist organization. I insist that you stop such vile remarks immediately. I will forward this message to your sponsors."

Here's Chuck Roberts feedback form: http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form4b.html?76

Send the email to both.

we've left too many of these charges unanswered for years - we still hear that "Clinton was offered Osama's head on a platter by the Sudan but turned it down" lie so many times that many think there is at least some truth to it... no matter how many times we've debunked it. Heck, even Bush's hand-picked 9/11 commission debunked it.

Chuck Roberts went TOO FAR with his "al Qaeda candidate" remarks about Ned Lamont. Is this what passes for journalism in America now? Is the esteemed Mr Roberts unaware of which political party was in power on 9/11, and again this week?

This man should be fired immediately. If anyone had said something similar about George Bush, you KNOW that would have been the result.

I give up on CNN; it's supposedly news, when it is really nothing but a right-wing slander channel

Mr. Roberts,

Your implication, in the form of a question asking if Ned Lamont was the "Al Qaeda" candidate was reprehensible, and an example of the lowest form of gutter journalism. I have come to expect that from Fox News, it is too bad CNN has decided to follow their sordid example!! An abject apology both to Ned Lamont and to your viewers would be in order

142. My "response" here:
I am writing in DISGUST at your corespondent Chuck Roberts comments asking the ignorant question "is Ned Lamont the Al Qaida candidate?" How insane and inaccurate can you get? May I remind the media that *REPUBLICANS* were in office when Al Qaida killed roughly 3000 Americans on our soil.

Do your jobs THIS time, you failed to do what you should have prior to the war in Iraq and we've lost nearly 2600 soldiers over NOTHING. Don't fail Americans once more by parroting absurd Republican talking points. Further, you need to stop letting Bush take credit for BRITISH AND PAKISTANI intelligence in the latest terror sting. Might also be prudent to point out "fighting them there" appears NOT to be effective?

I can't think straight when I'm pissed, but there you have it.

Have you no shame? Ned Lamont the "Al Qaeda candidate"? Chuck Roberts comment and your support of such slander, you will begin to realize, is shameless. Remember this, now, as you lay your head on your comfy pillow tonight, that your total lack of integrity will bring with it a miserable existence. You will also begin to notice, your serious lack of judgement and pseudo journalism brings more harm to this country than you can possibly imagine. Finally, you will come to realize, that your good will only come to you when you do the right thing and report the truth and apologize for your participation in right wing propaganda and hate. CNN has lost any shred of legitimacy that it might have had left (which wasn't much). Ned Lamont won this election by representing what 68% of this country now believes; that George W. Bush has been a miserable failure as President and his administration is clueless as to effectively dealing with the issues in the world and our country today.

103. My Letter
I must say, as long time viewer of CNN I always regarded CNN as one of the most unbias new sources out there. After watching today's Chuck Roberts interview I'll never watch CNN ever again. Not only was Chuch Roberts line of questioning blatently bias, but to assert that Ned Lamont is the "al Qaeda candidate" is outright obserd! The majority of voter in CT voted for Lamont, is CNN asserting that those thousands of people also support al-Qaeda?

I would expect that line of questioning to come out of Fox News but I thought CNN had better journalistic integraty. It seems I was mistaken and today will be the last time I ever watch your broadcast. There are many other ways to gather news and CNN will no longer be one of them.

This is total anchoring and embedded techiniques to brainwash the unsuspecting masses. I have to hand it them, they sure now how to use language to get the results they want. As a student of hypnosis and NLP; what I see perpetrated by channels such as CNN and FOX is criminal. People need to wake up and realize what is being done to their minds watching this crap over and over again.

I have to believe, in the end, we all reap what we sow. For some it's immediate, for others its over time. I truly believe that when we walk out of integrity it all comes back to haunt us.

Instead of the standard comment channels, perhaps CNN's reporters should be contacted directly with this issue. I think if enough of them complain about the pressure from viewers, it might have more weight than an corporate voicemail/email box that gets deleted every 24 hours without review.

25. CNN Headline News is kind of Romper Room news anyway
Its quite jarring in the morning coming off of serious, half-way decent CNN INT to the babblings of "Good morning sunshine . . .
I think I might have to actually switch from my cable company in order to get some kind of credible news.

On a side note - Chuck Jones is insulting about half the people of the state of Connecticut with moronic observations like that. I hope the CNN Headline news show a commensurate drop in ratings.

Assistant Treasurer of the United States. His wife runs the largest ($2.5 BILLION) private equity firm in the known physical universe. SHE says her firm specializes in investing in HEALTHCARE companies. Maybe she will advise Senator Lamont on UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE, like Hillary to Bill.

It's naive to expect Mr. Lamont to be any different, in that respect. In fact, he owes part of his wealth to the CLINTON Telecommunications "Reform" Act, which allowed him to get into the cell phone business BIG Time.

Ned Lamont is a multi-millionaire businessman.

Just like how the RW would always call John Edwards the "millionaire trial lawyer" and it got into just about every mainstream news story on Edwards that he was the millionaire trial lawyer.

Nobody ever mentioned that Cheney was a millionaire CEO or that Bush was a millionaire oil baron.

CNN = certainly not news

Mr. Roberts has no shame.

I still remember CNN pulling it's exit poll @ 1:20 AM and replacing it w/ a
bogus poll later on 11/3/04.

I was simply pointing out that, when he finally did start responding to the swiftliars, it was too late. He should have done it from the beginning. He wanted to take the high road, which is admirable, and he believed that Americans would be smart enough to see through the swiftliars bullshit. By the time he realized that that wasn't the case, it was too little, too late.

It's been posted again and again. They knocked them down in the spring, and then again in June. They arranged a huge press conference when the book came out in August and the swiftboaters cancelled theirs. Every time the swiftboaters came out with something, the campaign, military officers, vets Kerry served with, people who had been silent for 40 years, they all responded. People at DU were doing what you're doing right now, blathering about no response instead of spreading the truth of what the campaign was putting out.

And, btw, it's been several hours and Lamont hasn't responded either, so by DU rules, he's a wuss too.

Lamont was a huge victory. It got the whores notice. Now we need to make them dance.

The way to do that is to continue to demand representation and continue to mount challenge incumbency.

Lamont is like the first battle in a war to take back the party. The DC insiders are scared, but they aren't beaten yet.

111. Who is this "Some"?
Seems like they show up to conveniently provide the MSM with far right GOP talking points that they can throw out like doggie treats.

"Some say liberals all hate America and love Osama!"

120. Here's my comment.
Your host Chuck Roberts has given CNN the honor of having aired the most vile, hostile, perverted, insane, comment uttered from a mainstream journalist ever!

I wonder if CNN is now the same kind of propaganda tool the Nazis, Communist China and even Sadam's Iraq used.

Was this man reading from a script?

I feel great sadness and shame for people in your profession, and I will continue to get the real news from the blogs.

124. Positive comment
Thank heavens for CNN international!

I'm so glad you're giving us an alternative to your dumbed-down American edition, in which all the trembling, drooling sheep can find out that "some people say" Ned Lamont is the Al Qaeda candidate. Myself, I've heard that some people say that Chuck Roberts caught syphilis from his pet goat, but I'm pretty sure that isn't true at all.

Democrats in Connecticut just happened to elect the candidate who thinks that invading Iraq was a bad idea, which puts him on the same side as 60-70% of Americans. The Al Qaeda candidates are those who still support the Bush adminstration. You know--those folks who let 9-11 happen and New Orleans drown, in both cases because they couldn't be bothered to pay attention. Indifference is a very effective weapon of mass destruction. Where is Osama anyway? And where are those anthrax killers?

125.  I emailed on a form that might get the attention of CNN Execs.
First, I emailed Chuck Roberts' show on Headline news, then, I used this form to email a question to CNN TV news. http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form2.html?2

I titled my question: Will Chuck Roberts be apologizing on air for his despicable remarks?

Inside the letter box I wrote:

While watching Headline News yesterday, I was shocked and greatly offended to hear anchor Chuck Roberts propose to his guest that "some might argue that Ned Lamont is the Al Quaida candidate.." Does management approve of Roberts' flagrant and libelous statement? I would like to know how management stands on this, if Roberts will be asked to apologize and any other course of action management plans to take in this regard. Thank you.

Regards,

xxxxx

128. They may take all the letters as evidence
that their style of reporting is getting lots of viewers and thus money. Get a list of sponsors and threaten to undergo a boycott. Flood the advertisers with the threat of hurting them in the pocketbook.

136. Isn't this what the FCC is for?
Aren't their laws against using lies to smear someone on public airwaves? I should know better than to even ask. We've already been through several election cycles with the Smear Liars.

141. Have you ever seen "the Manchurian Candidate"?
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 02:14 PM by alfredo
That was where the al Qaeda candidate came from. He is saying that Lamont has been brainwashed by al Qaeda and will at the appropriate time commit an act of violence against America (overthrow the government).
