Wow! I talked to two vet stauch Republicans today
One knows my feelings very well. He was all for the war. This morning he
stopped me and said, "I was in Vietnam, and this is Vietnam." I told him
I really want our troops to get out of the crossfire and he agreed. He's
been ragging on me for years, but today, well...

Another vet from Nam was talking about his service. I said, "I'll bet you
never thought you'd live to see another Vietnam." He shook his head and
said, "No, I didn't. But that's exactly what we've got now."

They're waking up, people.

1. now, when do they start marching?
Durin the 'Nam years, people were much more willing to take to the streets. I wonder if we'll ever see that again, too?

Though good on your friends for being de-blindered!

2. Baby steps, villager.
Especially for the one that's been in my face.
He looks like a Blackwater goon. This was huge
for him.

5. Won't work this time.
We're too divided and diffuse a people for marches to sway the country one way or another. A new tactic is needed. Maybe purging the Dem party of warmongers by net activism is one of the better things we can do?

3. That is such great news, ginbarn!
We have been canvassing in my staunchly repukelican county. It is amazing how many repugs tell us they are going to vote all Dem in November.

Are you guys going down to Crawford? I will be there from Monday thru Sunday. :woohoo:

16. Our niece is getting married in the next few weeks
So we've got a lot of stuff to do. If we go, it will most
likely be on the 19th.

19. I will be there till the 20th
So be sure to look for me or call if you come down on the 19th. I am thinking cell phones will work better in Cindy's new spot. Mine always worked fine at the Peace House and her land is very close to it.

I PMed your husband with my cell number. Make him give it to you :)

4. I've yet to run across
a vet who is for this nonsense. I'm a vet and the only warmongers I have the inopportunity to chat with are chickenhawks, waving their flags and cheering bush on to the abyss. I always ask the question where did you serve in the military (usually a good conversation starter?) "I haven't served yet." My favorite response from them. I've offered a few a ride to the recruiters office but no takers yet.

This is another Vietnam and if bush gets 100,000 American kids killed in Iraq "conservatives" will not give one flying dog fuck.

8. Agreed, and the one sure fire way to bring back the marches of
the late 60s and early 70s is to bring back the draft. Those chicken-hawks will change their tune if their beloved children will be sent to kill and die for Dear Leader's Oil Wars. :hi:

9. I want republicans to be forced to discuss the draft
because bush needs more troops. Take that message back to your congressional districts. bush is an idiot and his supporters are happy wallowing in their ignorance.

And only the wealthy and connected ones will be able to buy their Son's way out of serving in the Infantry.

Yes, I also want that discussion soon. :hi:

6. "Proud to be a Veteran....Ashamed of GWBush" bumperstickers spotted
I've seen several of these around Allegheny County (Pittsburgh suburbs) and the one guy I know just bought a new car...he's got the bumper sticker on the new car already. He detests this administration.

7. Actually, we need to get away from the Vietnam comparisons...
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 01:32 PM by slor
the blunder in Iraq has strategic implications far more serious than Vietnam ever could have had. Think of it more as the Battle of Stalingrad, and we are in the role of the Germans.

On Edit: I have said this before, as have others, and some may be tired of hearing it, but seriously, this is far worse than Vietnam.

I was just so shocked by the goon approaching me to say that.
I agree that the implications of this are immensely bad.

20. Vietnam was enabled by JFK's murder, the Iraq war was enabled by...
... stolen elections.

Logically, those behind JFK's demise are answerable for all that has followed, including Iraq. LBJ... RMN... Gerald F... GHWB... GWB...

In case you are wondering, I cut Reagan a little slack because he got shot whilst GHWB was VP. Reagan's would be assassin was a close friend of GW's older brother! Go figure!

15. talked to someone in florida last week.
always had the feeling of republican sentimentalities, but didn't really get into it because it's a good client, the big suck I am. was sent some very racsist material over the years, which I ignored the best I could.

went off on talking about 'little brother'.

Oh, do you mean Jeb?

Ya.

So I gather you are not a fan of big brother Bush?

Hell No, my mama didn't raise an idiot.

They've got us stretched to the limit.
If they do involve Iran they'll have to draft.
And that will get people totally p*ssed
