Would this plot have happened if we had gotten Osama?
I do think this is the real deal, but I got to thinking...

Would it have even gotten this far if we got Osama? Isn't this an example of a bush failure? If everything they are saying is true...and it was only days away from being realized, that's a pretty damn close call. This isn't an example of how well bush protects the U.S. It's an example of him dropping the ball because Osama is still out there and doing his Al Qaeda thing.

1. Failure by design...
BushCo needs the so-called "war on terror" to continue forever, so they'll keep doing everything they can to foster and inflame terrorism around the world.

3. You read my mind cynatnite.
I was thinking the same thing last night. If * had done his job instead of fattening his wallet, then this probably wouldn't have happened.

7. There will always be terrorism and there has always been terrorism
I've been reading the new bio of Timothy Leary (great book) and the book mentions that in 1970 alone there were over 4,000 separate bombings across the country, most not causing death. The Youseff attempt on planes in 1995 was as huge as this but was prior to 9-11 and didn't get the media play that this plot is. But your question is a good one. I am sure that people with radical intent look at Iraq now and think how empowered they can be. If Osama had been captured quickly by using all the US resources in Afghanistan instead of Iraq maybe some people would not get it in their heads that these types of terrorism have a place in the world. It wouldn't stop all but may have stopped some, but could never stop all.

9. I wasn't saying it would stop all terrorism...
or even stop most. It seems to me that if what we are being told is true, it's entirely possible this plot wouldn't have happened. This is a reminder, IMO, of the fact that bush took his eye off the ball in favor of Iraq and forgot about Osama.

Now, we have what appears to be a significant threat from Al Qaeda. IRRC, they've only managed to get their hands on a few members of that organization and it continues to operate freely.

There are a nearly endless supply of people who hate the US enough to try stuff like this. And it's not new. Americans have been actively disliked around the world for a very very long time. There's a great passage about it in Kurt Vonnegut's novel Cat's Cradle, for example, and that was written in the mid 1960's. It's a longstanding issue, and, I think, doesn't have as much to do with chimpy as people around here believe. Remember that Al Qaeda was trying stuff against Clinton, too.
