One last important thing to know about Joe Lieberman....
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 04:03 AM by Wetzelbill
Ok, I'm sure many of you already know this but it is worth reiterating.

In 2000, when Lieberman was running for Vice-President, he also ran concurrently for Senate in Connecticut. He refused to drop out of the senate race, even though another Democrat was sure to win the seat after he vacated it and ran solely for VP. Now, on the flipside, if Lieberman was to become the next Vice-President, his Senate win would be nullified because he would have had to vacate his seat to be part of the Gore administration. So then, Connecticut's Governor, a Republican, would have then picked Lieberman's replacement, which assuredly would have been a Republican. Joe was playing it both ways, either way he was going to stay in the Senate or be the VP. He never considered the good of the party, or the will of his home state voters. He just wanted to ensure he got to stay in office, one way or another because either way, he would emerge from the election a prominent national figure.

Much has been made of Lieberman's warm nature and how nice he is, and, you know, he may be a pretty nice guy, for the most part. But even nice guys can be selfish, and Joe Lieberman is most assuredly selfish. His mild mannered nature belies the size of his ego. Joe Lieberman only truly cares about Joe Leiberman.

So whether he is trying to play both sides to stay in the Senate or VP, or abandoning his party to run as an Independent, it all boils down to Joe looking after Joe.

Maybe he hasn't always been like that, but he is now. So, hopefully, Lawrence O'Donnell is right and Joe will get out of the race sometime next month, have one last hurrah and move on.

Then he can focus on himself on his own time, and the rest of our country can take some steps in the right direction, rather than enabling the disaster that is the Bush administration.

1. I recall that in the news. Joe has always been for Joe
Egos are always with these guys that get that high in office I think. Few do it for any other reason. Greed, money, their egos. Few do it for the service to people.

2. I think the prestige and indulgence
of the cocktail circuit etc, gets to be too alluring and enticing for these guys to give up. Lieberman is a big shot in DC, all the pundits, lobbyists and his fellow senators love him. He's a quintessential establishment figure, so letting all that go has to be tough on that giant ego.

3. I just do not see why this is a big deal. If the voters do not like him
do not vote for him. If one wants to vote anti-war I also see no problem. This guy is sounding more and more like Bush. He thinks he is right so we we became anti-Am. if we do not vote for him. It is crazy. I am starting to think we have all put all the nut cases into the high places in Gov.
