Enlist here for the New Crusades
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 07:02 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
Please, can we have a new Enlightenment? Because if we don't, and saner heads don't prevail, our nutcase leaders around the world will plunge us into a worldwide religious war.

It is a very unfortunate convergence of events that "fundamentalists" of all persuasions are now sitting in the seats of power in nations around the world and we can take our pick from "Islamicfascism", "Christofascism" "Judeofascism" "SunniFascism" "Shiafascism"
and ... you get my drift.

I almost can't believe this is happening in the 21st century. Are we all primed for the new Crusades? Will destruction bring you rapture or martyrdom? Do all the rest of us have to go along for the ride?

I would like to roll out my "unified theory of religion".

All men are free to worship the God of their choice in the location of their choosing as long as:

Their religious sect NEVER EVER EVER EVER says that anyone not of the same sect or belief is "evil" a "blasphemer" a "non-believer" an "infidel". Those terms should be exorcised from every religion in the world. Those words are the cause of death, dying, and destruction since time immemorial. In the future enlightenment, conversions can be the result of debate, dialog, evangelizing, whatever peaceful means there are, but never at the end of a sword, or nuclear weapon.

Modernity CAN play a part in modern religious theory and tolerance. The Aztecs (or maybe it was the Incas, I sometimes confuse them) had religious ceremonies that involved human sacrifices on altars on top of pyramids where the human heart was offered to the Sun God. Are we all at a stage where we can agree that a resurgence of this particular religious custom would not be welcomed by anyone anywhere? Even if we found the ancient scripts where they are clearly told by their god that this is aok and in fact is what he/she demands? Could we be on solid ground as modern humans in rejecting this?

The ancient societies also supposedly played a version of football/soccer/lacrosse that involved the tossing about of human skulls. Is anyone anywhere trying to mount a nostalgic revival of this sport? Would we tolerate if someone did? NO, we would not, because humanity has evolved beyond that point.

We need to continue our evolution as citizens of the world to the point that the concept of the "infidel" becomes anathema to all societies everywhere.

1. I think this could be the most important topic of the century - any input?
I think the big winner(s) would be: Ta dah! Russia and China if they just sit on the sidelines and let the rest of the world blow itself up. Thus, in a very bizarre way would Communism and totalitarianism win over the religious states of the world.

2. Unfortunately, the religious are too terrified of their great and terrible
gods to agree to such a reasonable stance, and the non-religious among us are too afraid of offending the religious by making such demands... thus, war is the answer - and no one wins.

3. I appreciate your response.
I think there is real fear of discussion and I have no intent of offending the religious. But, unless we are to live war everlasting, I do not see the God of half the world triumphing over the God of the other half. There will be no triumph. There will only be death and destruction that is unimaginable.

The war drums are being pounded relentlessly. Today our President used the term Islamofascists to define our enemy. He used a specific religion to define the enemy. A huge religion with many sects. We are at the edge of madness.

4. It's frightening isn't it - watching the destruction in slow motion
It's so incremental most people don't even seem to notice where this is leading. When I try to talk to people about it, I'm either called an "alarmist" or they say, well, they started it, if they didn't want to blow us up... I can't seem to get through to people that this is a very small group of (for lack of a better term) brainwashed and desperate young men - Most Muslims have no quarrel with us, or didn't before we started these wars - I've known a lot personally, they're no different from me.

Everyone wants the same thing, enough to eat, a decent roof, a good life for their offspring - except those at the top. They already have what everyone else wants - IMO they just want more. They seem to think the world is theirs to do with as they please, and apparently ATM what they desire is to spill blood.

If only people would refuse to allow themselves to be goaded into serving some other man's ultimate purpose - just refuse to hate, refuse to kill until your own life is truly threatened - but they don't think this way. When the authority points and says "that man, over there, he wants to kill you - Kill Him!" they accept that as the gospel and do as their told...

I really don't know what to do. You can protest, but if a tree falls in the forest and the corporate media doesn't report it... I hate the sense of helplessness, know what I mean. There has to be a reasonable solution, doesn't there?

The "average" among us want just what you say - a decent life and hope for a better future for the next generation. But for those at the very, very top, once they have riches, they desire power. The most powerful power is the power over life and death. Spilling blood is the ultimate Rolex for them.

6. We need a worldwide movement of some kind - a spiritual one almost
One by one we need to recruit refuseniks to say I will not be used as a pawn for you to play god with. Every religion has the same basis - and that basis should be inviolate - Love they brother or however you want to say it. They need us to do their dirty work, they certainly won't do it for themselves. I wonder how one could get such a thing started. The mainstream churches of all religions should be, and likely are, again bloodshed of almost any kind, it could probably start there. It probably could be done, one human at a time - a kind of oath, if you will - "I will not be used as a tool in your work of destruction..."

9. Thanks for clarification. My original source was
the Little Golden Book Encyclopedia that my parents bought for $.59 every week at the grocery store. I still remember the illustrations that went along with this info- they were quite graphic. The soccor playing, head kicking Aztecs looked pretty jolly. Robust, you might say.
