Barn Doors and Runaway Horses...
How many times has this happened?

There is the breathless announcement of a "terror alert". Extra security is thrown up at airports, or buildings in the financial district, swat teams are deployed on Subways, etc etc.

Procedures are changed. Extra ID is required, shoes are removed (!still!), toenail clippers are relinquished and backpacks are ransacked.

Then, after bunches of angst and the wailing and gnashing of teeth all over the TV for days on end, the word gets through that what is being so frantically reacted to happened MONTHS ago.. or even a couple of years...

Have we EVER, even ONCE, kept those damn horses in the barn with any of this frantic running around?
Nope. All the foiled plots have already been foiled by the time we hear about them. What the hell is the point of the hysteria?

(....... . . . . oh, right. . . . . . . . )
