Can the Democrats just boot Lieberman out of the party?

Holy Joe Lieberman is, for all intents and purposes, a fifth-column Republican who's getting his marching orders from Karl Rove. Would it be beneficial for the Democratic Party to formally kick Lieberman out of the party, or would that backfire, and why?

Because if he won the seat back, it might effect how he votes for majority leader.

5. He's already out of the party.

He lost the Democratic Primary, and rather than dropping out decided to run as Independent. He is no longer a Democrat.

6. He doesn't need an additional boot. He lost the primary . He is done

for now. The funding and support of the party goes to Lamont. Lieberman can run in another position or in another party. Right now Lamont has his running spot on the Democratic ticket and that's that.

If Holy Joe is going to take money from the GOP and its big donors, then should the Democratic Party formally expel him, or would that backfire? And if it could backfire, why?

Granted, the right-wing media has the megaphone in this country, and the Roviet Union Goopers would spin it that Democrats are intolerant of "moderate," or "non-far-leftist" viewpoints in their ranks.

The voters do that, not the public servants. There is nothing left to do. He is expelled. He is gone. Not only that, he changed his party affliation to Independent.
