Can the Democrats just boot Lieberman out of the party?
Holy Joe Lieberman is, for all intents and purposes, a fifth-column Republican who's getting his marching orders from Karl Rove. Would it be beneficial for the Democratic Party to formally kick Lieberman out of the party, or would that backfire, and why?

1. That would backfire
Because if he won the seat back, it might effect how he votes for majority leader.

8. I don't think it would do one thing to change his vote, he has been
voting with this neo-con administration more than with the dems...

3. Lets just make sure he loses.
It will be tough for Lamont to win, but we all said that about the primary, didn't we?

5. He's already out of the party.
He lost the Democratic Primary, and rather than dropping out decided to run as Independent. He is no longer a Democrat.

wouldn't do that to "his" party (drop out of the race). I'm assuming he meant the democrats.

6. He doesn't need an additional boot. He lost the primary . He is done
for now. The funding and support of the party goes to Lamont. Lieberman can run in another position or in another party. Right now Lamont has his running spot on the Democratic ticket and that's that.

11. What I meant was "formally expel" Lieberman
If Holy Joe is going to take money from the GOP and its big donors, then should the Democratic Party formally expel him, or would that backfire? And if it could backfire, why?

Granted, the right-wing media has the megaphone in this country, and the Roviet Union Goopers would spin it that Democrats are intolerant of "moderate," or "non-far-leftist" viewpoints in their ranks.

12. He already has been formally expelled.
The voters do that, not the public servants. There is nothing left to do. He is expelled. He is gone. Not only that, he changed his party affliation to Independent.

13. Joe "formally expelled" himself
when he registered Independent. He is not now (nor has he ever been) a Democrat.
