Was the US going to be silent about the "plot" if Britain didn't go public
We are told the White House knew about for quite some time? Were they going to keep it secret and not say anything about it? But, once Britain went public, the Administration had no choice but to say they knew about it? Were they going to Let It Happen On Purpose again? But the British foiled them? Behind the scenes, are they pissed off that the British went public? I know. It's insane. They would never do anything like that...

1. Quite the opposite.

It is now being said that the WH only knew barest details until last night, because the British were afraid they would run it up the flagpole for PR points and ruin their investigation. Like they did before.

2. Yep they certainly would do that
I remember way back shortly after 9/11 I wrote an guest opinion for my local paper and stated that Bush's thinking in that classroom was, "Oh yeah, this is going to put me in a great position." I caught much flak for that but it seems I have been vindicated many times since.

3. I'm annoyed at the use of the word "foiled" myself
If 5 of the guys are still at large, then I'd say they have just "discovered" the plot, not necessarily foiled it. If it had been foiled, they wouldn't have to be restricting liquids and gels on planes.

Idiots (the press, I mean -- as if that's not obvious)

4. That's what I would like to know. What did they and when did they know it?
