The British Authorities foiled the plot: feared U.S. FBI would LEAK!
It was the U.K. who did the investigation and stopped the attack. The Bush Admin can not claim this as a victory and their participation only HIGHLIGHTS THEIR FAILURE!

The British authorities didn't want to share info with the U.S. for FEAR OF LEAKS!

From http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2006/08/the_anatomy_of_.html

British authorities had been tracking some of the suspects for several weeks but stepped in to round up the plotters when they began to book flight reservations and before any of the suspects purchased tickets.

British authorities have shared parts of the investigation with the FBI, and out of concern for leaks, only the barest details were shared with regional authorities as late as last night.

13. Yes Sir
Chertoff said:

"...there was no indication of any plotting in the United States but the United States was taking step to protect against unseen threats or copycat attacks. "We cannot assume that this threat has been completely thwarted," the secretary said..."

Think about that. Chertoff doesn't want any copycats but then he and Gonzo go and stage a circus out of this thing - revealing the plans of the supposed liquid bombers - and by doing so, THEY create copycats!

My brain hurts.

2. It probably got to the point where the "plot" was going nowhere
so they figured they would cash in on a big news story before the whole thing went away.

3. This also proves the Bush Admin is not interested in National Security
They are only interested in using issues like this as a PR stunt.

4. A stretch?
I wouldn't trust the Bushbots as far as I could throw them with by disabled arm... BUT...

"British authorities have shared parts of the investigation with the FBI, and out of concern for leaks, only the barest details were shared with regional authorities as late as last night".

The FBI is many things, some extremely repellant. But it is *not* a regional authority.

12. "shared parts of the investigation with the FBI"
The article (and other articles) go into the fact that the British authorities were only informing the U.S. of their progress. The British did not give the U.S. all the details FOR FEAR OF LEAKS. The U.S. has had a bad rep of leaking intel lately... it's no wonder the Brits didn't trust us with the info.

9. Out of concern for leaks...
would appear to apply to regional authorities ... not the FBI.

10. Problem is we need to be concerned about US News sources first
reports on this because they come from the "propaganda machine." Ill wait for the Guardian or other sources to confirm. More will probably come out about this later, it usually does..

I stopped trusting ABC after it's "NOTE" became so partisan...so not sure about this blog and the two reporters.

11. The FBI is no Scotland Yard.
Well, if they were allowed to do their fucking jobs then ya and in the past. Rove carved out the FBI, like he did with the CIA (think purge). Maybe it is time Congress let the FBI investigate 911? Treat it as a crime? Hmm? Maybe?
