2. Why see this as a Republican plot for the election?

If we are doing conspiracy thinking why not consider other possibilities, like say--Why can't this be a plot to prime us for the US proxy war in Lebanon expanding into full-fledged US involvement? All that is needed is to have the terrorist plotters to turn out to be Syrian and Iranian. And we all know that Iran is supplying terrorists with sophisticated weapons... they wouldn't hesitate to hand over high-tech liquid explosives, right???

But really...
If you are going to make a threat to air-travel with the hope of disrupting public affairs, why wouldn't you do it at the peak season of European vacationing?
Isn't it just possible that a group of idiots in London decided to do that in order to get their jollies out of making the UK and the US jump on command?
