Do London passenger's have to fly naked?
Sheesh, I'm listening to the list of banned substances which have been banned from carry-on luggage as a result of the new terra plot. Virtually everything. No satchels, backpacks or soft bags. I swear I even heard them say no purses. No liguids of any kinds. Milk for babies must be tested first. On an on an on.

I hope they still give blankets onboard!

4. If you really want to put an end to these threats on planes...
make the passengers fly in hospital gowns (with the backs open!) and send ALL luggage (including carry on stuff) on a separate cargo plane.

7. Therein lies the problem
Put up a stink about it, and airport security will toss you in lock-up faster than you can blink. If you ever want to fly, you are at the mercy of a bunch of idiots. You must march lock-step when at an airport. I saw restaurant staff at an airport once threaten to call TSA security on a woman becuase she dared complain about the quality of her food. The only way you can protest is not travel, and hope the airlines suffer enough to put pressure on the government.

10. But still, those that participate can look forward to detention
and possibly being on a no-fly list.

Getting in trouble at the airport is as easy as getting sentenced to death in Texas. Yyou've just got to look cross-eyed at somebody.

These folks are a bit extreme for my taste but it is starting to happen. I was thinking more along the lines of everyone refusing to take off their shoes or something symbolic.

Protesters storm Prestwick over US military flights

08 August 2006

Security was increased at Prestwick airport yesterday after anti-war protesters cut through the perimeter fence and boarded a US military plane looking for weapons en route to the Middle East.

The self-styled Civilian Weapons Inspectors breached the Ayrshire airfield's defences and ran on to the runaway shortly after 3.30am in protest at the use of the airport as a refuelling stop for American planes carrying bombs to Israel.

Three of the protesters, two men and a woman, from the anti-nuclear campaign group Trident-Ploughshares, boarded a transport plane through an open door and sat in the cockpit for almost 30 minutes before police arrived. Four other campaigners, two men and two women, were also arrested at the airport.

"We've been told that Prestwick is no longer being used by the US military to transport hazardous materials, but we suspect that this is not true," said David Mackenzie, spokesman for the group.

29. you can do more than just not fly
you can write LTTE, you can call your congress person. you can protest directly to the airlines. You can talk to your friends and neighbors. You can sponsor anti-paranoia resolutions at the local level as a means of getting publicity and pressuring the state to re-evaluate their position.

Don't think there are only two alternatives. And as for in-airport protests I agree that's something that comes with a heavy penalty and just disrupting the security line is putting the pressure on the wrong person (the low wage security flunky). However if people had the balls to do a large scale sit in I'm not sure how that would be different from a lot of other high profile peacable actions.

32. don't fly to the u.k.
all of your other suggestions are not really of much value, the strongest message you can send is simply not to fly to/from the u.k. -- THAT is what costs them the money, it isn't just the airlines who lose customers but the entire tourism industry

it is simply not acceptable for me not to be allowed to carry-on my electronics (an order of magnitude more valuable than the price of the cheap air tix i've bought to u.k. in recent years) or liquid (i've had internat'l flights where the flight attendants only brought out one drink unless you buzzed them and made a pest of yourself, it is a dangerous to fly in the dry air of a cabin w.out your own hydration)

they are going to have to find a better way to screen people than to seize all valuables and liquids

34. while I agree with your later points
I totally disagree with you about the initial suggestions. Most people don't fly to the UK anyway, and this is a global travel issue now...if I want to fly from Seattle to St. Louis this insanity affects me too and the UK won't miss any of the dollars I wasn't going to spend there anyway.

On the other hand my OWN government and airlines and businesses right here in the states need to understand that these idiotic paranoid measures aren't acceptable REGARDLESS.

And that's where activisim comes into it. Perhaps you don't think that activism in general has much value...if so then we disagree. I think if people don't speak in MANY ways they are unlikely to be heard.

Boycotting is one method...an often good method...but it is far from the only good method of protest and speaking to power.

I've returned home to find love notes from the TSA inside my suitcase telling me they went through my dirty, badly-in-need-of laundering clothing. I'm sure they regretted it.

23. No. Not at all. No commercial cargo on passenger jets is scanned.
Just reported on Cabal News. Anything could be packed into a shipping box, addressed to Grandma in Skokie, and then detonated from the passenger compartment.

The obvious answer is to strip search grannies and cheerleaders, and leave the cargo hold alone. After all, we wouldn't want to interrupt commerce!

15. Two x ray screening. Two personal searches.
The US and UK are police states. Hope this is temporary. Anyone know how laptops are effected. We need them for work purposes. Yes, we should just refuse. Does not an X ray tell all? Can't take what you need for a successful trip. Why go?
Bush will soon be telling us to go shopping again along with take a vacation. Just as said, we will have to fly naked.

20. CNN said you couldn't even bring on your KEY FOB!
You can take your car keys off it and carry them, but not the fob. It's a transmitter.

As for laptops, you can only bring Windows-based machines. Onboard security can easily hack into them to see what's on them, and even still, they're far more likely to crash before the plane does.

company, but he's responsible for it. Never lets it out of his sight, as he doesn't want to be responsible for replacing it should it be lost, stolen, or damaged. He's due to start travelling soon after a two-year break. He's going to be mighty unhappy.

No way my expensive laptop is going into a hold. I will demand the price of my ticket back without any charges. They ruined the purpose of my trip. Unless, I hear of some reason for this strict practice, I suspect the US government is overreacting as is the norm.

27. They'll have to charge extra for flights during spring break
or if the swedish bikini team is on board. But they might have to give a discount on most business flights since no one wants to look at a bunch of pale, middle aged salesmen.

I can see all kinds of new opportunities for an airline willing to capitolize on this. "Fly The Clothes Free Sky!" Might bring whole new opportunities to join the mile high club?

Don't worry, be happy.

30. I did just cancel my flight for the weekend.
I made sure I told the airline why. (I travel with a two-year-old, and I can't put up with stupid shit over and above what traveling with a two-year-old normally brings.) I could sense the operator's frustration, as if the phones were going crazy over this. My dad just canceled two upcoming flights, out of principle, and told the airline why. Hopefully the cancellations will be numerous and the repercussions for the airlines major.

33. lots of people are canceling from what i've heard
i had scheduled to make air reservations today, of course, now they cannot be made until i can confirm whether or not i can carry on electronics and optics to my destination

i must be able to carry-on my valuables, they are worth far more than any air ticket, and the air line does not compensate you when they are stolen from your checked luggage, as happens quite regularly from my airport

if they don't straighten this out quickly i predict cessation of operations for at least one airline and severe economic repercussions for all of them

business travels need laptops and electronics, period

if the restrictions on laptops, electronics is just in place for the u.k. i guess you could still travel to continental europe then take the eurostar if you must go to u.k.? but what would stop terrorists from targeting the trains next? they have already really -- look at madrid

britain needs to get a handle on this, they are an island, they could find themselves handicapped severely if there is not a harsh crackdown on such plots

the bojinka plot foiled in the 90s may have even included contact lens solution, well, i'm sorry, but you CANNOT deny people their contact lens solution on a flight of any length, seems like mr. clinton was able to handle such plots w. far less boom and far less hysteria and inconvenience to business and the traveling public

blair and bush need to shut down their stupid vacations and catch a clue train
