Lieberman Defends Decision to Run as Independent in U.S. Senate Race

SEN. JOSEPH LIEBERMAN:

Well, I'm doing this ... also, frankly, because I'm fed up with the partisanship in Washington and the way in which primaries have skewered our whole political system, where people on either end of the spectrum tend to dominate primaries and it leaves out all the people in the middle. I want to offer a choice to all of the people in the middle in November.

 The Middle? What is The Middle?

I know most of the elected officials, some of whom are good friends of mine, feel that they have to play by the traditional party rules. I will tell you this, Gwen: It puts me in a position I've been in before, and it's one that I like. I'm the challenger, in that sense now running against the establishment.

:wow: The Challenger, now running against the Establishment?

And I think my opponent just comes, not only without experience, but without the capacity to work across party lines to get something done. The Senate doesn't need one more partisan polarizer.

:wtf: PARTISAN POLARIZER? Better to be a PARTY POLARIZER?

But, look, I'm an independent Democrat, and if I agree with somebody on one issue, even if I disagree with him on everything else, I'm going to work with that person to try to get something done for my state and country. In my opinion, there's too little of that in Washington today, and that's why we are not dealing with so many fundamental problems our country faces or not taking advantage of so many opportunities.

:wow: :wow: :wow:

And when we leave, if that ever happened like that, Iraq would fall apart, the Middle East would be destabilized, and al-Qaida would have a base in Iraq from which they would strike us again. I think we're at a position to begin to withdraw our troops, but that's a judgment that the generals in Iraq have to make, not some politician back here in Connecticut or Washington.

:patriot: Um, Joe, Iraq IS apart, the Middle East IS destabilized and why would you say,

....al-Qaida would have a base in Iraq from which they would strike us AGAIN

unless you wanted to make it sound like al-Qaida had a base in Iraq from which they struck us previously?

8. His vicious attacks on Lamont and apparent attacks on
the Democratic Party don't inspire much empathy, as he seems to have none. Maybe he IS crazy?

RD could this be a good challenge to the Party-- this wrench he's throwing in the works, this ATTACK today by TPTB in the Democratic Party on the "lunatic fringe" that really IS The Middle?

Sad to see the Weapons Of Mass Deception being wielded by Democrats-- if that's what Lie-berman is...............................

7. What a goddamn whiney, sore loser baby!
The people DID have a choice, Holy Joe, and they chose to kick your whiney, repuke-lite, Dem-trashing, Bush-kissing, Bush-enabling, warmongering, arrogant, clueless, worthless, hopeless, classless, graceless, tasteless ass the hell out of the senate, finally! What an insult to claim that the people need a "choice", when they've already made their choice clear! What an arrogant motherfucker!
